You would lose weight quicker if you were riding. You will gain it quicker if you aren't.

What about doing a low carb diet for a few months to get enough off to ride then once you are riding it will all seem better. It's a rubbish time of year anyway.

A couple of things come to mind here, have you had your Thyroid tested, I have always struggled to put weight on, last year I put on 2 stone, I was delighted but turns out I have an under active Thyroid.
My OH has a serious bad back and a huge tummy, I have started halving the portions and getting him more involved with the horses, just to give him some exercise, walking is good for weight loss, but you need to do a fast walk not a mooch.
