Thinking of going to see this Highland - opinions?

Of course you need another pony JFDT :D If fergs is going in liverly next winter your field could take another ;) :D

I'm going off the forum now because you're a dangerous influence, but

1. my field will be wrecked (again?) next year if I put another horse on it
2. I have no money
3. I have no [currently paying] job
4. My land rover is screwed
5. I already have 3 beasts who are draining my limited resources
6. I have limited time other than when I'm not working on my PhD which I hate anyway, so another horse is only another encouragement not to finish the damnable, hateful thing.
7. have I mentioned I have no money

I didn't mean she was too old to show in veteran or local classes.

What I meant was she is too old to do affiliated mainsteam highland classes, which is the only place being registered would matter.

I am happy to admit I was wrong, apparently people on here dont consider £5K for an oldie to be OTT. I'm not anti oldie, I have one, just wouldn't pay a lot of money for one.

I don't mean veteran or local classes. We don't have veteran classes here in Australia. I don't mean local either. I fully expect to take Kippen to the Royal Melbourne Show. Which is definitely NOT at local level. Being older doesn't stop Kippen from being one of the best Highland Pony geldings (if the judge likes the old fashioned type) in Australia. Remember Kippen has had a successful in-hand career at a very high level. Kippen is nineteen years old.

A quick update for anyone still reading :)

I went to see her this afternoon. Although there's no denying she has weight to lose, she's not as fat as she appears in the video and she was a much more responsive ride than I was expecting after seeing the children in the video ride her - happy to go forwards off just a squeeze and slow down to a seat aid. The one thing I was concerned about before I rode her is that while a ploddy pony would be perfect for building my confidence again, would s/he still be the pony I wanted in six months' time? Not an issue with Breagha, once she's fit again I suspect she'll be all the pony I could ever want whilst still retaining her sense of responsibility. I tried her in an open field with the RAF screaming about overhead and her field mates in eyesight and she didn't spook, nap or turn a hair in any way. It's the first time in 8 years I've felt happy on horseback.

So her owner (who is a fascinating man I could have happily sat and listened to all afternoon) will be getting an email with my offer in it tomorrow once I've bashed the calculator a bit harder :D

OP im glad she's what you want in a horse and its great that she's giving you confidence, i still would strongly advise you to get her vetted. I hope that it works out for you, and you get your horse

I hope you get her, she looks lovely, the camera always piles on the pounds! Good luck with her if you get her, I'm sure you'll have some great times together!

Fabulous news. Fingers crossed for you. I really hope you're the winning bidder, she looks a sweety :)

ETS: Can I ask how you pronounce her name? I can't quite work it out :o

What a sweet pony! through watching the vid she seems to have a very 'maternal' presence about her. Very fat though but when in work will soon go. Love her :)

Very pleased! Fingers crossed for your bid :D

Jt if you watch the video with sound on, you will hear d say her name. I am rubbish at phonetics :p

On the video link her name is pronounced (in a very lovely way!) as `bree -a`.

OP that was an interesting update and I do hope your bid is successful. As I think I mentioned earlier my Highland was hugely obese when I first got him and was basically purchased as a confidence giver. He was more than happy to be a ploddy type but now with weight loss and regular exercise he is amazing. My instructor rides him from time to time and says he`s a `fabulous pony` and could easily do a dressage test (she has competed and won at high level dressage comps, something to do with George?) while for me, well, he knows he`s way more competent than I am at these things so is happy just to tootle along at my pace. Basically he`s just a good all-rounder with a new lease of life.

So, if you feel at this stage that Breeagha has the potential for more once she has come back into regular work, then you`re probably right!

Thank you all. I don't have sound at work :( but will listen at home. At least I have something to be going on with now. What a nice name too. :)

I say that Josethdene is a bit fab :)

Isn't he just? He's a big soft lump, with paces to die for. My younger lad is one of his and he seems to have inherited the paces... :D

I spotted D. Fergs is famous  And rightly so of course :D

That's 'cos he's awesome. He is going to be a jumping machine. And I think I may have said I would take him to HOYS one day :p

I was having a good nosey at his website the other day and spotted plenty of fergs and darach photos :D. I think the website needs some photos from our jumping session yesterday though if its being updated ;)

Oh and I would recomend going to http://www.morrichhighlandponies.co.uk if you want a highland all the ones from there I have met are fab and very athletic for highlands :D
