Thinking of having my dog PTS - advice needed

You made the right, but very hard decision. I still miss my old Lab a year later but don't for a minute regret letting him go when I did.

Take a little time to grieve then find your new friend, there'll be one waiting out there for you somewhere - not a replacement, just another needing love and fun.

Hugs

what shame, hard decision to make but the right one for your boy. You gave him a wonderful life and you have loads of lovely memories of him. It is so hard but you will soon be able to think of him and smile. big hugs to you xxxx

Hi, I just wanted to keep you all updated...

We had our wonderful friend PTS today :(

Old age finally got to him and today we made the very painful decision to let him go.

My heart feel like it's been torn out but the photos and memories are keeping me going at the moment.

Thank you everyone for your support when i originally posted and i though you would just like to know that i took on board all your suggestions and advice.

My OH wants another dog right now and if he could he would go and buy one tonight...I think i would like to sleep on it however i think i do want another one as Charlie was such a huge part of our lives for the last 14 years and the house seems so quiet and empty :o

Miss you so much little man but now your free to chase as many squeaky balls, eat as many socks and hunt as many squirrels as you want xxx

Oh dear, poor you and OH - . He so deserved that final kindness though, when he finally had enough. Silly story might bring a smile ...... When a much loved cat had to be PTS prematurally, as her little corpse lay on my knee as we were driven home to bury her inthe garden, I pointed out to her that I and her brother would like a connection, could she identify another cat! (I know, we do strange things when upset). 5 weeks later when I put out feelers to cat rescue, requested small black cat, 3/4 years old female (very frightened and shy) was waiting. She's been with us now since 2006, and the two cats are deeply attached-as am I of course.

Without doubt when you all are ready, another dog will be ready too.

I'm so very sorry for you both. xxx Run free old man.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to grief, if you OH feels he needs another dog in his life and you can cope with it then go for it, it would be lovely for another dog to share the obvious love and care you both have given to Charlie. But if you need time then take as long as you need, you both need to recover and grieve for him. xxx

^^^ what a great sentiment.

OP - I'm sorry about your loss but know that you held up your end of the bargain to look after him and do right by him until the end and that shows your true love for him. {{{hugs}}}
