Hello

Right, in October, with any luck, I will be going to university a long way from home. For the first winter I want no horse to tie me down , and really just want to be able to settle in a little.
My coloured horse will not winter out, and needs hard work through the winter. He is very talented, but a difficult ride, and is my rather wonderful cross country horse.
My mum has offered to keep him ticking over during winter, however she does not compete or hunt anymore due to too many responsibilities and fear of injuring herself.
Oshka is not a happy hacker and I feel it would be a waste of an incredibly decent jumper all winter, but then again is very difficult to ride and really needs someone who knows what he is like- after three years I have learnt when to leave him alone and when to take a pull on the approaches to things.
One of my best friends- Becca, has just yesterday told me she will be moving away, due to her OH's job as a gamekeeper. The house they are moving to is larger, but with less stabling, and so she is having to downsize horses. The horse we share, Wills, is going to her sisters, and a couple she is leaving with her mum. Her hunter is now retired, and her 2nd hunter is going home, as it was only loaned to her as owner was pregnant.
Therefore, Becca needs a hunter, and I need someone to hunt my hunter. If I was going to trust anyone with my superstar horse it would be Becca- she dotes on her horses and spends every second she can fussing over them. Should I, Shouldn't I?

If you totally trust her then do it, if he is quirky and needs a capable rider, and you know that she is, then there shouldnt be a problem

If you trust her 100% then go for it.
If it doesn't work out surely it wouldn't hurt him to have winter off and chill while you're mum pampers him!

Good luck, it must be a hard decision.

Sounds like the perfect solution Rosiie. Your mum has access to horses to hack out if she wants to, and Oshk might just benefit from a winter with someone who rides well and would give him a decent amount of work and challenges to keep his mind active.

I would go for it.

Yea why not, she's mega sensible and a good rider so I doubt she will break him and it's not like you will have any hassle from her like some loaners have.

Plus he will be hunting fit so you can bring him out when you are on your hols!!

Is she moving to Buxton?? Will she still come with Rockwood??

I know I'm really excited about it now I have thought, plus she could sort out a couple of his bad habits flatwork wise because shes good at it!
Sarah- no, she won't be hunting rockwood as much, she will go with Cheshire Forrest and high peak mostly.
