Thinks mare will foal early !!!! Not to early I hope

My maiden mare is due April 23rd, and started to "bag up" 2 weeks ago now, and this week her udder is getting bigger and bigger by the day. She has also gone off her hay, for some reason but still loves her food. Have also noticed that she now has pitted edema all the way along to her girth area, not too worried about her edema as the vet came out to see her 3/4 weeks ago now when I first noticed the pitted edema by her teats, the vet reassured me that edema is quite common in pregnant mares.
How soon before the arrival of your foal did your mare start to bag up...
 
Have you had the vet out to check her for placentitis??

That is a long way off her due date to be bagging up! (sorry if i worry u.. don't no your mares history.. )

My mare foaled 3 weeks early when she was a maiden.. i think she bagged up about 5 weeks from her due date.. waxed and ran milk the day she foaled.. (foaled at night)...

I had a mare at work that started bagging up 9 weeks from her due date. - turned out she had placentitis.. had to go onto antibiotics.. we got her to 2 and half weeks from her due date.. had a healthy foal.

Bella started bagging up at 287 days, same as her first pregnancy.

Edema in pregnant mares are very common in the last trimester.

Is it possible that is not liking the hay due to another reason, like "off" bale? It's also possible that foal may be causing a bit of discomfort. I know Bells has had a few off days and she LOVES her food!

Keep checking her vulva for changes and also discharge.
Do keep taking photos as this helps to keep things in perspective xxx

Our maiden mare started to bag up nearly 6 weeks ago. She is due around the 8th of March but for the past 2 weeks very little has changed. She has a small but obvious milk bar,is slightly longer and a bit more slacker in the quarters but apart from that she is still eating up and showing no obvious signs.

Maidens are funny in the sense that until they have a foal you never quite know thier pattern.

Her dam showed all the classical signs of foaling (even when she was a maiden) and we only missed 1 of the 3 she has had due to not trusting my own instincts.
