Has anyone used these? Are they really better than the bucket style muzzles?

I usually use Shires grazing muzzle as my boy doesn't get on with the Greenguard version, but I keep seeing these advertised.

They're not the cheapest, but if they are geniunely more comfortable, hard to get off and don't rub, I'm more than happy to spend the money :)

My mare has been wearing one this year. She has no issues at all about having it put on and none of her friends have damaged or removed it! I enlarged the hole a bit and added sheep bits to stop the headcollar rubbing her face but she has worn it for up to 21 hours a day with no issues. Huge difference in managing her weight so it definately gets my vote!! :) :)

This is great to hear, thank you!

Oh, that is great if they can wear it for so long palo1! I do have the option of him living out in the summer - so if he could be comfortable in a muzzle for that long, that could be a good compromise.

Do most of you use a regular leather headcollar?

I use a fieldsafe headcollar - webbing with velcro. I am having to use the muzzle less at the moment but earlier in the year I was quite happy to leave it on for almost 24 hours. It really is fantastic for my girl. :)

My idiot took over a month & several false starts to twig how to eat in it. I made the hole bigger several times. It is now too big.

It does rub a little despite much padding but less than the other muzzle I was using.

He's broken a cable tie once so far (& so could then eat totally unrestricted) but has yet to completely remove it.

He HATED it at first but appears to have accepted that he does need to wear it now.

I need to order another one & leave the damn hole alone this time. I also ought to order the special padding to go with the special headcollar that I now have.

I like that they are airy and seem less likely to rub. Only been using mine a few weeks. Bit fiddly to fit but not too difficult. He seems to be able to eat in it ok so I’m waiting to see if it really does restrict his eating! The bucket type ones seem hot and ended up rubbing, even with lots of fluff. I’m using a leather head collar with no extra fluff for now. The plastic discoloured very quickly but that doesn’t seem to affect how it works.

I use one too, it's a lifesaver - my cob wears it about 22/7 at the moment - it's on a LeMeuix breakaway headcollar with added sheepy bits. It doesn't rub at all, he doesn't mind it, and he can eat very easily (I enlarged the hole with a leather punch). It just limits how much he can stuff in with each mouthful and stops him getting a huge bloated grass belly.....then fat, fatter etc. I've turned into a bit of an evangelist for them! Makes it so much easier to manage him.

Thanks all :)

Just ordered him one (they were hard to get hold of so must be popular) & hopefully he'll appreciate the upgrade from the bucket style he's worn in the past ??

How do people find the sizing of these? I am just about to order 2 for my fatties but my 15h horse who is in a full size bridle is in the xtra full size shires grazing muzzle as the full size one is too snug round her muzzle. Do iopt for the horse size or draught. I am leaning towards the draught size one. I have emailed them this morning but still no reply. She does have a big head ?

My 15.1hh cob (bit too big for a cob bridle, on the smallest holes of full - he wears full sized headcollars) is in a Horse sized muzzle, but it's on almost the shortest holes on more than half the straps. So the one he wears could fit a much bigger-nosed horse. I'd probably start with Horse size, try it up against his face and swap it if it really is too small.

Mel is on the 2nd to last hole of her noseband on her full size bridle. And the full size grazing muzzle was wedged on ?. I do know someone who is selling a horse size one and she said she would refund me if it turned out to be too small so might be worth the faff to try that one before ordering a bigger one. I hate buying and returning stuff online. I think Mel is basically a shire horse on pony legs ?
