Thinline Muzzle - How do they hold up over time?

Older Pony needs muzzling in winter field, far too much grass to let her loose. Spent about 2 weeks in her bucket muzzle with no issues, then the other day on removing the muzzle for daily check she'd managed to rub a big bloody sore on her nose overnight. I could see on the inside of the muzzle where she'd done it, and whilst I'm going to try padding it I'm also considering dishing out for a Thinline, as they look like there's nothing in there to rub on in the first place. It would have to stand up to 24/7 use until the winter field has been sufficiently eaten down. Not ideal but it is what it is ?‍♀️

So my question is, how well do they hold up over time?
I know a few of you have been using them for a while now, so does the plastic hold up? Do they become brittle in the sun/UV? Have they lasted in general? Not worried about the zipties, just the actual expensive bit :)

I use one on my mare .

Had it 2 years and still like the day I got it. She can wear it 24/7 in summer and easily drink. I do wrap vet wrap round the plastic under her chin and on the head collar as a bit of padding as it did rub slightly. But she can easily breathe and be comfortable as it’s so lightweight vs traditional muzzles.

Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it :)

I have been pleasantly surprised by mine - I had held off getting one as I didn't think they looked very robust and because of the price. My little Welsh pony has worn hers two years now and it is still going strong. I like it as it seems lighter and less constrictive and I am happier leaving it on for longer than any other muzzle type. I haven't had any problems with rubbing either - which was a problem with other muzzles that I had tried.

Another good review to add to the Pro list, thanks :)

I like them but get through 2-4 a year usually. Pony is destructive when it comes to muzzles though and many don't last as long ?

ETA: The first one lasted a summer but I do think the plastic of the newer ones is different & less flexible.

I must be unlucky, has had two rip within a couple of months of use.
Still managed to use the second one, just has a tear in it from the hole outwards, that luckily doesn't seem to pinch her muzzle

I've only had mine 3/4 months but am really impressed

No rubbing at all (i bought the Thinline headcollar and the cheekpiece covers) and she had 1/2 a face clip for the last few weeks and no evidence that shes wearing a muzzle at all.

She isn't particularly hard on her muzzle usually but so far I can't see a mark on this one.

I've got mixed reviews on them. I got one July last year and mine wore it pretty much every day, it held up well until it didn't if you know what I mean. She managed to get a split in the hole which over time got bigger until it was nearly twice the size. She then managed to rip in half the other month, she is out on her own and it was not near a fence so i think she might have stood on it or something.
New one came the other day and despite being the same size, the hole is bigger than the older which is very annoying as the other one worked really well at restricting her, this one not so much, very frustrating.
Also the fit hit and miss. Mine has a full head but not so large that she is on the end holes of everything but the draft over size just about fits if fitted as directed and only if the headcollar sits a bit low, i'm going to adjust it again but its not idea.
They are a good idea and much better than the bucket ones, didnt rub, she didnt get sweaty muzzle in them in the heat and he was very happy with it on but i am going to email Thinline about the size of the hole as its not mentioned anywhere on the website and thats my biggest gripe with it.

I’ve used mine on my pony for two years. Worn every day for daily turn out from March to November. It’s is still like new. It’s expensive but must be made of a very high spec plastic as it hasn’t worn or split and it doesn’t rub. It’s smooth and flexible. My mare loves hers. She shoves her nose into it to get ready to go out, which she doesn’t do with conventional muzzles.

My first one is still going strong. I bought a second one off a friend and after about a year it started getting lines which then weakened the rubber and it split. But I still think they’re the best muzzle out there.

Both mine are on year 2 of heavy use. One has lost a fin but to be honest I didn’t realise until I found it in the field poo picking! Hasn’t seemed to have had any effect weirdly.

That was one thing I noticed actually. If I walked into a field with a bucket muzzle my ponies would run a mile yet I can walk up to them and catch them easily with a FF muzzle so they can’t be too miserable wearing them.

A few on my yard use them. They have all worked well and I’ve not seen any of them cause any rubbing or break easy, unlike a greenguard one which has broken several times.

I think it will depend on the pony & how abusive it is towards the muzzle. My destructive Highland has seemed to average 1 a year (buuut he killed a dinky muzzle in 10 minutes & got awful rubs within days from a bucket muzzle... He's destroyed a lot of other things as well!) Minimal rubbing, a lot better than other muzzle styles.

I’ve had mine for over a year and no problems at all. A real relief as he got terrible rubs from both the shires bucket muzzle and the greenguard one. Took me a couple of goes to get the fit right but otherwise smooth sailing. I did purchase the accompanying fieldsafe headcollar to use with it.

He isn’t a muzzle destroyer though - in fact, he isn’t very bright and licks it every time we put it on ??

I really rate it. I’ve had mine nearly two years and it’s lasted. It’s the only muzzle my pony will actually try and eat in. All the others he just relentlessly tries to get off. As a negative it has gone a bit of a weird colour though but that doesn’t bother me. A bit like plastic phone cases they get that yellow hue over time.

Mine too! I thought it was just because I’d been too lazy to wash it ?
