My horse is quite a warm type and I'd like something for him to wear to travel as he's fully clipped out but is sweating in him thermatex.
I like Horseware rugs and have looked at the Airmax cooler and the Rambo dry rug.
Any recommendations or thought on either? I'm unsure on the Dry rug's sizing as they state Medium is 6'-6'6 and large 6'6-7'3
Horse is 6'6-6'9 typically so not sure where we fall there!
The neat freak bit of me would like black to match his travel boots but that's unimportant really!

I have the dry rug. My friends refer to it as my horses dressing gown! It works as a rug to dry and it is thin and not too warm (much cooler then the thermatex). However, it is a straw magnet. It is easy to clean, as long as it isn't covered in straw! I'd go for large (the fittings all have adjustment).

I also have the Rambo stable sheet. It's a black cotton sheet, smart and definitely not too warm. I use it in spring and autumn as her in between option.

Never tried the air max cooler.

I think it's much better than a fleece, a bit better than a scrim (although this is best in hot weather) but not much different to a thermatex.
This is on a cob, and it works better the shorter her coat (I.e. Summer coat or fresh clip).

I have a Rambo cotton cooler. I've had it for donkeys years and it is great as a travel rug. My horse used to get hot but this worked really well. I also have a Amigo Mio fleece cooler which is a really nice thin fleece which also worked really well on a hot horse. They used to come in black but not sure they do now.
Both rugs came up a bit big on one 6'6 but fit fine on my other 6'6 who is a bigger through the shoulder. For a cob I would try a 6'9

Look at the fouganza toweling rug. The dry rug is hideously expensive and the fittings are coated not steel so they rust. I took this up with Rambo who said in an email that it should be kept away from moisture and salty conditions as they will corrode. You know..... like a sweaty horse. It also attracts every single piece of hay in the world. They did send me another one which is still in the packet so looks lovely :D

I would get the summer weight thermatex

this

A good budget option is a waffle cooler - get an acrylic one rather than cotton. My ponies dry well and are comfortable in their waffles. I got mine from Trotters riding wear because my pony likes rugs with gussets - there are other places that sell them too.

We have the Horseware Amigo Jersey Cooler to travel Topaz in (she is the hottest horse known to man), though quite often travel her naked as she's too warm, also have a thermatex summer weight (think its summer weight as it's fairly light-weight, bought second hand so not 100% sure) she gets hotter in the thermatex than the jersey cooler!

Also just bought the fouganza drying rug, as couldn't justify the Rambo price, not used it yet but looks good and light-weight, though I wanted it to dry rather than travel in.

I think I'm going to invest in a cotton sheet for Topaz to travel her in, and she if she gets too hot in that, or maybe look at some of the waffle type coolers, need something that will dry but not make her too hot!

Just a thought, but as it's for travelling, I'd definitely recommend that whatever rug you buy has wicking qualities - ie. a Thermatex type rug.

The "Dry Rug" type rugs are great for drawing moisture from the horses coat, but they hold the moisture rather than wicking it away, so the horse could potentially get chilled.

This!! I have the Dry Rug and it is great for drying my mare but I have to make sure I dry it out thoroughly before I next use it as it stays damp for a long time, I probably wouldn't use it as a travel rug, more of an after bath rug (I have the large for a horse who wears 6'6). I also have the Airmax cooler and love it, extremely lightweight and does have a funny texture but looks smart and dries my mare really quickly but also dries out quickly itself. I also really rate the Rambo cotton sheets and have used these as a cooler when horse not too wet.

I've got a amigo jersey one,it's a 6'6" & pretty roomy on my 6'6" horse but he's very slender. It fits my big, chunky 6'9" mare much better. I really like it,doesn't stretch but I still wouldn't use as an under rug & stuff doesn't stick to it.

So I've crossed the dry rug off the list then as it's not only travelling but will be used quite a bit just as a cooler.
The Thermatex whilst lovely is out of budget. I know they are utterly brilliant but it's a weeks wages for me. I'd spend on a turnout but not cooler.
I've also looked now at Premier Equine. Daughters horse has the nanobon which I like. They don't do it now but there is similar.
Thanks for all the suggestions, busy googling.. my favourite past time 😂
