Can anyone recommend an ultra-thin/light fly rug for a horse who suffers with the bugs but is also very hot so I want the lightest possible to avoid making him hotter/sweaty?

thanks :)

I have a couple of cheap derby house own brand fly rugs, they are very thin which is great when it's hot. :)

I had a Saxon one which was pretty thin, soft mesh material. I find the cheaper fly rugs are much more lightweight than the expensive brands.

I have a weatherbeeta that isn't too thick. Shires are brilliant but quite thick.

Horseware and Mark Todd both do one made of mesh.

The premier equine 'super lite' fly rugs are fantastic, and are by far the lightest I've found - the ones with waterproof tops can get warm in summer but the standard ones are so ridiculously light - the material is very fine and I have never found them to heat a horse up. Surprisingly durable too for something so thin, when I first tried it I couldn't imagine it lasting long but I'm in my second/third(?) year of it now and there are no snags or signs of it wearing out. They keep their shape really well too - I prefer the cross surcingle rug to the belly flap version though as they seem to stay put better if you have an active type who chases about a lot. I've been really impressed with them and wouldn't buy another sort after finding these.

I recently bought one of the cheap Derby House ones and I have to say, it's been great! Really lightweight fabric but has stood up nicely to some rough and tumble in the field. They're on sale today for £20 and I'll be ordering a spare so he's got one to wash and wear.
