does any one know how to make sure I'm covered ? off riding for 3/12 with injury, friend has said she will hack my horse once a week to keep him ticking over works on yard and doesnt have much money so offered to pay her to do it as don't want to take advantage. checked with my insurance and apparently my horses 3rd party insurance is invalidated if I have paid someone to ride my horse, also there is no personal injury cover to the rider. Not expecting anything to go wrong but with horses anything can happen. Any ideas who's responsibility it is if anything were to go wrong ?

I have no idea, but you could insist that your friend had her own insurance before riding your horse.

Or rather than pay you, perhaps she could 'pay' for hay or something in return?

Or could you change your policy to include your friend? I know insurance companies did not like my horse being used as a working livery (for a very short peroid).

I agree anything can happen and it is better to be safe than sorry.
