Having recently lost my riding horse, and not being in a position to replace him at the moment, I just have my 28yo much-loved and very happily retired field ornament and lawn mower to worry about.

In the past I've been a gold BHS member to ensure she is covered for third party liability, but I'm wondering if there is a cheaper way to do it? BS Club membership comes with third party liabilty and is £30, rather than the £62 for the BHS. Anyone see any problems going down this route? As a mainly unaffiliated competitor will being a BS Club member prevent me from doing any local competitions? I'm hoping to share a friend's horse for the next few months and do some local competitions with him, so don't want to rule myself out of anything, but equally don't want to throw money away unnecessarily.

How do other people go about getting cheap third party liability insurance for their oldies?

Thanks for your help.

BHS covers third party and personal accident. Normally PA means anybody riding the horse, but it's better to check. I have to take out BHS membership next week, after telling insurance company to stuff their exclusions where the sun doesn't shine, but haven't checked the Personal Accident details (no-one else rides my pony).
