This Anglophile would love to read about your bit of the UK

RutlandH20 has told you a bit about the county - here is a link to the county website for you to look at :) http://www.rutnet.co.uk/

I live in one of the bigger villages, there are all 'old' and have different characters - the residents are generally a mix of old Rutland families and 'in-comers':) We are in Cottesmore hunting country - but are neighbours to the Belvoir, Quorn, Pytchley, Fernie and Fitzwilliam - there are a couple of Point 2 Point courses just outside the county, annual County Show - has lots of qualifying events for various horse classes. Rutland is the smallest county in the UKand is essentially made up of large country Estates which were part of the ancient hunting chases - most of the Estates are still functioning country estates - I live on one of them. Here is the link - http://www.staplefordpark.com/photo-gallery/house-estate.html the old house is now a hotel (chavvy footballers get married there:rolleyes:) but the 'family' still own the Estate and farm it, let out the properties, farms etc as do the other Estates. Some of the 'big' houses are still occupied by the families and haven't been sold off:)

It is a county that exisited for country pursuits and is still mainly rural/agriculture based with plenty of hunting, shooting and fishing going on :)

I live in Birmingham, Englands second city. The area i live in is called Perry Barr and is about 10 minutes from the city centre. It is a not-so-leafy suburb with a very very diverse ethnic mix, indian, afro-caribean, eastern european, english and oriental. I dont mind the mix and am happy to get along with everyone.

My horse is kept in a small area of greenbelt (land that has been designated not for building) sandwiched between all the residential areas.

We hack out of our yard straight onto lanes that lead to main roads but we do have access to 3 local parks (one small, one arboretum and one 2400 acres reserve) although these are very busy and you have to accept that you will be riding with all the other visitors, dog walkers, cyclists etc.

Anything else you'd like to know? :)

The responses to my request are utterly amazing. Thank you so much everyone. Have been through the thread multiple times and each time has brought me tremendous pleasure. So once again, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you seems so inadequate for the pleasure that reading your responses have given me. Cheers.
