..although it's getting lighter and I have been working hard to get finished at school as early as I can, to at least get 30 minutes riding in, I have failed because of snow, wind and/or rain...

After a hard day grafting (like we all do) I don't think it's much to ask to have a bit of relaxation in the evening after work to drive away the blues, but nooooooooooooooo...it has to stay nasty.

So my question, apart from sweeping the tack room (again) and cleaning tack (again) is there anything horsey you get up to in an evening when you can't ride?

Inbetween school work, I have produced over the last few weeks, a lovely set of check-lists that I'd printed and laminated (all at home I might add, I don't abuse school stuff! :p) that will keep me on the straight and narrow (hopefully) in getting ready for shows and more importantly, for Trec events.

There is a rider list, horse list, trailer list, extra kit list, camping list, food list and 'Things to Consider' list (OH thinks planning for major disasters might not be high priority in rural Lincolnshire....)

So list what you have done, might give me a few more ideas of 'being useful' when the weather is against me!

:D

Just put a jacket on and ride in the snow, wind and rain. :)

You mean....actually venture outside when it's raining?? I might MELT!

Ride!

Is there anything actually stopping you?
Or move to a yard with an indoor school!

Yes, being absolutey exhausted then the thought of battling the weather makes the evening seem even more grim! Won't move, have my own place! :p

Im sorry I don't have a suggestion but just had to comment about the laminated lists :D I love writing lists but am not so good at following/keeping them....but maybe if I laminated them.... :D :D

...there's something to be said for a laminated list....:D

Practice playing up?:D I've done that.

OK, you lost me here...what??

~splutters tea all over laptop~

NOW look what you made me do.....

Sorry :o

Turn off the pooter, put it in the airing cupboard and in the morning check its back, take its shoes off and re-boot.

If it doesn't work, contact me through my solicitors: Sou, Grabbit & Runn.

Ach just get on and go for it, but beforehand .......

Put together a 1 pot oven dinner like biryani or a tasty casserole , just bung it all in a pot and let it cook it slowly
Set out stuff ready for a big bubble bath
Have your jammies sitting on a radiator so theyre nice and cosy
Record any tv stuff you want to watch thats on while you ride

Ride horse, set everything fair, head home...
Open wine
Run bubble bath and relax, glass in hand :-)
Put on cosy Warm jammies
Dinner's ready
Watch tv youve missed, braw !

Or just miss out the bit in red ...:p

Have a horse on box rest, that seems to keep me busy morning and evening, although thankfully I have flexible working so can leave early enough to take him out for a walk hack. :p

I'd be with DS here - been there, done that and too bl**dy old to do it anymore!
Me too!

I retired this summer with the intention of keeping my mare fit over the winter, ready to really get going out and about in the Spring. Ours are at home with no school, we live at the top of the Pennines and I haven't even managed to ride once a week.

I feel your pain DS but haven't got any suggestions, I seem to spend all my time mucking out!

Me too! We are pretty much at the bottom of Pearlsasinger's hill, and I feel like I just get going again and then it snows again! The roads are so steep here that its dangerous going out in ice, so I don't risk the horses.

Never thought of laminated lists, and I've just bought a laminator too....hmmm! That said, I'm sure my husband already thinks I'm a control freak when it comes to the horses, so if I laminated my lists I could be in trouble!

There's no such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing.;)

otherwise:-
pull manes and tails
trim fetlocks and ears
check stud kit and plaiting kits.
wash your grooming kit
wash or get dry cleaned show clothes

I am struggling at the moment to motivate myself to ride!

This week I swapped shifts for 2.30am starts so I could be home by 10.30am, dogs walked and then ride.

By time I had walked dogs I was so tired and glad to be back in the warm, I just sat on the sofa watching tv! Didn't ride once. I feel so guilty and lazy now :(

Ooooo, camper van lists! Oh thankyou thankyou thankyou! :D

I need lists for what's going in each box......

~starts writing list and looks forward to warming up the laminator tomorrow night
