Has anyone else had it with this weather? It's completely hindering work at the moment because we can't hack out because of the ice and the outdoor school is frozen. All we have is the walker which is indoors, so horses in work have to go on that, but I keep having to freeze my bum off haying these youngsters in the fields because we've still got snow! Sorry for rant but I'm getting mighty annoyed.

see what you need is a beach nearby, the route to which is gritted because it is a bus route........

though actually the field was fine to ride in today, none of this arena nonsense

Oh jealous! Unfortunately we don't have a beach, we have a local all weather gallop that we can use but ironically it's closed because of the weather.......... How does that one work! Lucky you that your ground is soft enough now, we're too far up north everythings still frozen

Bad news for you - the monthly weather forcast states that this cold weather will continue for at least another 2 weeks!
It doesn't affect me so much, my horse isn't being ridden at the mo anyway.
Lucky to have a beach close by mind.... I wish (1 hour drive for us)

am really appreciating it atm, am not taking it for granted at all, and above the tide line has been hard of occasions. Am also enjoying being 200yds of main A road (strange i know) because it is well salted so can hack along it (is speed restricted) on mine if I need to. Still annoyed with weather but am much better off than some.

Field was only ok in the sun, where we have long grass the rest was a bit hard.

hard work isn't it?

Never mind, before you know it I am quite sure the UK will be back to its' usual soggy self, and everyone will have to contend with mud and all that goes with it. The one advantage to frozen ground is that at least the horses stay clean.

I can't join in the moaning because I love winter, and it has finally started to snow here at last, so I am a happy bunny now.

I totally agree
My horse is at peak fitness and ready for hunting, all of which has been cancelled apart from on the 2nd Jan, but i personally thought they were BONKERS to go out, several people's horse slid over hacking to the meet.
All that hard work getting him fit and he is bored, frisky and slipping around his field or cross in the stable.
Roll on spring!!!

i'll join yor cub on this one! sick of the frozen fields, turning out on concrete would be better!!!! lol.
i think another 2 weeks off this will finally finish me off!!!! im trying to keep positive but damn its hard!!!

I know its beginning to take the biscuit, we cannot turn out at the moment as the ground is solid and thick with snow so no grass, the all weather out door arena is frozen solid so cannot ride in that and most the roads near the yard are black ice. Its a night mare. I had so many plans this week as am off work but all gone to Pot now with the weather, its crazy, what happened to the days when the snow turned to slush the day after it snowed lol.

I'm split really, don't mind the cold and because we have mainly roadwork round us can still hack out (only time having rubbish off road hacking works out quite well!). And as Enfys says at least they are all mud-free! I am off to my instructors tonight to use indoor school and friend up road has a school that copes much better with the cold than ours and is in full sun, so if weather stays like this will toddle up there in lorry one evening later this week and maybe a couple of evenings next week as our school is like permafrost! We hay the fields all winter anyway and big round bales are dropped in by tractor so no issues there. In fact if I had access to a better school it could stay like this til spring and I'd be happy!! Next comp we are doing is at Bury Farm and indoors so that should hopefully run. Can see that in some places with snow still on ground it would be very frustrating tho, we've just got thick frost!

Yes, utterly fed up of it. we've had it since a few days before Xmas! No sign of it going at all so far and forecast more snow for tomorrow and wed

I was aiming to get horse back into work this month and do a dressage comp in 2 weeks time - no way in hell at this rate! Trailer well and truly blocked in

I've never seen it this bad here. We had a small amount of snow on Saturday (following two weeks of snow and ice), which iced over and created a covering of frost a bit like an ice rink. Even walking on it is really difficult, turning out or driving is completely out of the question. I have never seen the fields like this, the grass is covered in this ice and for the first time in 10 years of keeping the horses at home I can't turn out.

We are totaly ice bound - was it West Norfolk meeting on the 2nd? Thats the next village to me and we were going to take our young cob. Suffice to say we changed our minds and stayed at home in case they came past and stirred everyone up. If it went ahead they are definately bonkers!

That's warm - honestly

Nothing to do except wrap up, adapt and get on with life.

Totally agree...got a new horse 3 weeks ago and only been able to ride 5 times, he's out 24/7 and can't come in 'cos the yard is so icy. Even if I wanted to ride I prob couldn't after going a over t on NYE and messing my knee up. Trying really hard to think warming, positive thoughts!!

Yes it was WNFH but they had the run of the season (5 miles) and i missed it, but to be honest, i think it would do my horses' legs no favour to run on that ground. Still jealous though! They had a super time by all accounts. I have an apploosa horse (please say hello to me next time you're out) and hunt as often as can with west norfolk, who are a very nice lot indeed, but obviously much braver than me...
