Have to say this made me cry a bit. Faran standing fully tacked up wearing Kia’s saddle, bridle, rope head collar and a lunge line that I bought when I bought Kia, only thing on him that’s his is his own first new saddle pad ?

Can’t Believe it will be nearly three years since the old man left and I will be backing Faran in his tack later in the year.

It will be strange sitting in this saddle on another horse of my own. I felt proud of him that he’s turning into such a lovely calm balanced boy but the tears are still there for my old man.

It’s what tricks he’s been whispering in the wee guys ears for under saddle that will be telling. Kia was always fabulous on the ground so I’m waiting to see what ridden brings as that’s when his inner devil surfaced and you got his sense of humour ?

It's lovely that he gets to share Kia's stuff. There's something very full circle about it and it looks good on him.

Charlie only just has a bridle and bit all of his own after 11 months - and that's only because he was uncomfortable in both Monty's normal bridle and Archie's Micklem and he has a surprisingly small mouth. Everything of his was Archie's / Monty's or just stuff I have already. When I was looking I joked that my top priority was a horse that fitted a 17 1/2" Ideal saddle and 6'9" Premier Equine rugs ;). I'm not sentimental (it maybe helps that the two oldies are still here) just tight :D. He has Archie's old saddle and travel boots, all the rugs/liners are communal, the nearest headcollars all go on the nearest horse, I haven't bought a new numnah in years. He even inherited the rubber matting in his stable from my friend's horse who was in there before and he has a pony sized hay bar as Monty's owner's kids' pony had just been sold. Buying him wiped out my savings, so it's just as well, really!

Oh wow! Look at him all grown up!

I remember putting my old mare's bridle on my youngster and feeling quite emotional to see that it fit perfectly. Funny how a bit of leather can hold so many memories.

I think Faran is just lovely and I can't wait to hear all about your adventures together in the coming years.

I know the feeling so well, it is nice to use the lost love ones stuf, inc rugs etc. I have had many a lump because of using old tack or rugs. Looks very smart in it

He looks great - bet you can't wait to have a ride. My current event horse wears the browband from my first pony many many years ago. Makes me smile every time I tack up.

Yes I honestly can’t wait lol. He’s all higgelty piggery just now so going to wait until just before Xmas to do the sitting as he will be closer to four. Once he’s felt a weight on his back and accepted it then I’ll leave him until nearer is 4th birthday then start him properly ? You end up wishing your life away ??

Gerry has my late fell ponies saddle on now. The bridle was a tad on the small side so he got a new one. I have many a happy day in that saddle! And hopefully many more too

He looks so smart!

I’ve got tillys saddle in my attic and I keep saying I’m saving it for when I back the fell. All tillys other bits fit like bridle and rugs etc, i got overwhelmed at first but now I’m glad I can use it as opposed to getting rid. Not sure that would be easy!
