Hi, i am new to these forums.
I have been riding for a while now and am now in a position to be able to afford own horse. I have been looking around and its hard to tell from adverts advertising horses. Some of the horses i like, i don't want to go see incase its a wasted journey as some of them are hundreds of miles away. anyway, i have seen this one and can you please tell me what you think of it.
I have not yet contacted the owners as i wanted opinions first, as i don't have a clue about prices and what horse should be what price and stuff as im still new to buying horses cos this will be my first horse.
thanks for your opinions.

Hello and welcome to the forum. The horse is fairly priced and the cribbing wouldn't put me off, but some yards still have old-fashioned ideas about crib-biting and won't have a horse that cribs on their yard. I think you need to decide what you want to do with your horse - if you are after a quiet happy hacker, then this horse seems to fit the bill. As you are new to horse ownership, please take an experienced person with you, preferably your instructor, and make sure you get your horse vetted before buying it. Buying horses can be a nightmare - but it's well worth it

That horse looks like a lovely first one

Always take someone more experienced, an instructor would be great, and always watch the owner ride the horse first.

Phone the people up and ask a few questions, tell them what you would like to do with the horse and check they feel it would be suitable

The price seems fair, the cribbing wouldn't put me off but it would be worth checking your potential yard that it won't be a problem

I would not want a horse that cribs as my first horse. Generally, a horse that cribs can be stressy and this is not ideal. Also, some yards (rightly or wrongly) will not allow cribbers on the yard.

I would perhaps make enquiries locally at your tack store etc to see if someone knows of something suitable. Word of mouth is often the best way to find a good all rounder.

Generally, my advice would be not to buy problems. Fair enough if a horse's performance outweighs the negatives, but in this case you are not looking for a worldbeater.

There are plenty of good horses for sale, and I am sure you will find exactly what you are looking for.

the write up sounds very promising.

Its difficult to see but it looks to me as if he has a 3 ring gag snaffle in, which seems to contradict his quiet status. I would check that out if you were ringing. The first picture looks as if he could be fussy in the mouth.

Also you cannot see his feet and lower limbs in any of the pictures and again I would ask if they had any more decent pictures of him.

Definitely worth a phone call though. Make sure you have a list of questions.

Yes - I would question immediately as to why he has a 3 rig gag in. Ok, it's on the snaffle ring so looks as if he doesn't need it but if this is teh case - why not just put him in a snaffle?

IF he is as advertised I think he's worth a look - but take someone with you who is experienced.

Good luck!

Doesn't look or sound like he's in much work or very fit at the moment, so i would question just how quiet he would remain when in regular work. The bit being used also makes me wonder...
