. . . because there is no grass (time of year) and it's beyond wet (rain) and Kal is lonely (individual turnout), he is pacing and trashing his field (not ideal). I had a chat with YO this evening . . . she is basically bending over backwards to find solutions - moving horses around, offering suggestions, willing to help/do/make happen - all with a smile :).

Seriously, seriously love my yard . . . and my YO . . . so kind, so helpful, such a lovely place with lovely people. Nothing is too much trouble. When I mentioned (in passing) that I was reluctant to use the washroom because the solarium was low enough that he could knock it with his head, she got "the boys" to raise it. Just one example.

The other day she needed to be with family in a medical emergency so (only other) fellow livery and I mucked her two ponies out, did hay/feed/water and turned out/brought in.

It really is a family atmosphere . . . everyone pulls together, helps each other out, is kind and supportive, and there is NO BITCHING!

Just thought I'd share.

:D :D :D :D

I hope it's not just me, but I think if I had a yard with a solarium, the ponies would suddenly be getting wet a heck of a lot. I'm like a cat with a heat lamp, I am. You'd find me curled up on a rug under it. Maybe a hammock.

Sounds fab, PS. :D

It does come in awfully handy getting a grey ready for hunting/competitions in this ridiculous winter we're having . . . I honestly don't know how Kal put up with me bathing him (or even spotwashing) outside, with a hose/cold water! It took him a little while to get used to the washroom - it's enclosed so he can't see his friends - but he has caught on now and actually seems to enjoy being washed and then standing under the solarium with the fans going to get dry :).

Sounds like an amazing yard! :D

YOs like that are worth their weight in gold, my YO is just as good and I love her to pieces!

It is an amazing yard . . . mostly because the people are so lovely and kind and helpful. As I type this, lovely fellow livery is getting Kal in for me, hosing his legs, applying cream and putting him to bed . . . but then I feed her mare, turn her out and hang up hay in the field for her at least five days a week. We help each other :).

Nice one PS, you have really landed on your feet there :)

Dubsie, I have spare stable(s) but no solarium or school tho!

Yeah TFF, it is quite a find . . . and so refreshing not to have typical yard bitchiness to deal with. Everyone is straightforward and plain-speaking . . . and polite. Just lovely :).

You get what you give in life, if only more people realised this! I'm a little bit jealous, of the solarium more than anything (especially with 2 greys!) as my yard is also like this 95% of the time. We have the odd wobble, but it's generally pretty good. If I could add one thing it would be a heated wash and dry room!

it sounds lovely and your YO is a gem. But equally you both sorting her ponies out is equally lovely. what a happy place :)

YO is a darling . . . she and her OH can't do enough for us . . . we don't currently have a toilet, but her OH (who is a builder) is building us one . . . with a tea room . . . this for just TWO liveries! He is also plumbing in a washing machine and tumble dryer in the washroom so that we can wash numnahs, bandages and small rugs on-site. When Kal needed a vet after a hunt, YO came down to yard and stayed with me - and then she checked on Kal late at night and phoned me to reassure me/let me know he was okay - fellow livery S made me cups of sugary tea. Both S and I have either turned out or brought in YO's ponies . . . we put extra water in their stables on Sunday as they were coming back from a weekend competition and they often come back a little dehydrated from the travelling . . . I gave YO some aloe vera spray for one of her ponies and brought up apples from my garden for all four horses . . . it just works like a yard should work . . . we all care about each other's horses/ponies - and about each other.

I'm babbling now . . . I'll shut up ;).

Ohhh sounds so good! just shows yards are rarely perfect but the YO will always make or break it!

I'd kill for a solarium but ****** the horses It would be just for me :D

Your post is lovely. Its nice when yards are appreciated because we hear so much about the problematic ones. My current YO's are great, they go the extra mile to ensure the needs of the horses are met, much like most of my former YO's.
It's a rubbish time of year with mud and rain and little day light, so helping each other out makes the winter seem less bleak.

Good YO's really do make the all-important difference . . . if a YO is willing to look after his/her liveries, it trickles down and engenders the same willingness in the liveries to look after each other, the yard and the YO too.

Have to say that when it's icy cold at silly o'clock on a hunting or competition morning in the winter, a warm place to bathe the boy and (just as important) stay warm myself is a real bonus. That said, if the yard was an unwelcoming place and the YO wasn't supportive, all the solariums in the world wouldn't induce me to stay.

And that's why I posted . . . it's so lovely to be on such a welcoming, helpful and friendly yard and I wanted to highlight that there ARE YOs out there who care about their liveries/the horses on their land, etc.

lol you babble away PS as its lovely and refreshing to read a lovely post about a livery yard :) .As someone else said its give and take but also understanding. long may your happiness continue :)

Your yard sounds fab! My new yard has a solarium and I have a grey, I've never used one before but I'm hoping it will make bathing a bit more pleasant than dragging endless buckets of hot water, towels and thermatexs on a freezing cold day, or if it rains...
