This is Stevie - he is 4½ months old and we believe he is a collie cross...... What he's crossed with is anyone's guess!!

Here he is when we got him at 12 weeks:

A couple of weeks later in the snow:

Obviously a collie x

Can't see too much shep in there, but that colouring, bone and eyebrows are making me think Bernese Mountain Dog?!
He looks like a Smooth Collie on steroids in the last pic

I would imagine there is a definately a dollop of GSD in there, for the colouring and the ears. The last two photo's show it clearly. He looks like he might be a big dog !

Mountain dog - OMG!!! A few people have mentioned GSD but we have no idea as he was a rescue pup..... He's about 18" tall at the top of his shoulder at 4½ months and he has definitely got bone although he quite lean at the mo.......

Interesting!!

collie

just because he has that coloring and those ears it doesnt make him gsd or mountain dog. he just looks like a nice tri coloured collie who is going to go full prick. collie's ears can be floppy, tipped, or fully pricked.

i was asked many times if my tri colour pup was bernease (sp?) mountain dog, lol, and wee often joke about our full prick collie's being gsd's cos of the ears, lol..

he's lovely

Still think that is a lot of bone for a collie!

I know you can get tri-colours but he is a big lad.

weeelll....ok, their could be some shepherd in there BUT i have seen some enormous BC's in the last few years, huge boned, chunky types. I prefer the more petite type, lol and my last pup at 12 weeks (whom i would class as your average type) was teeny next to a friend's litter who looked twice the size and bone at the same age. If this IS the type the OP has id keep a close eye on joints and hips as a fair few ive known have had probs. honestly, its surprised me as well, but there are some absolute donkey type BC's out there!lol

what a handsome dog! lucky you.

I think he looks like a GSD x farm collie. doesnt look like he will be rough coated. more GSD coat.

have fun!

I had a collie that at 10-11 months old was the same hight as me, when on his back legd.(I'm 5'5") he had loads of bone and is even bigger now. He's that big that I had to give him to my friend that own's a livery yard as he was too big for the house!!!!

And he's 100% collie bread by a vet, that had them checked first.

Thanks everyone! He is a handsome dog & we love having him. We are first time dog owners so quite anxious about doing it right - thankfully he seems pretty trainable and I've enrolled in puppy training starting next weekend, which I'm sure is more for my benefit than his, lol!

It's good to know the wealth of experience on here for my numpty question though!!
