I was in Kota Kinabalu a while ago and we were given a tour of the town - funnily enough this ranch was not included. It is shocking how heartless poeple can be

OMG!! Im in shock! Thats disgracful. SURELY there is some thing that can be done. Dont they have a sort of RSPCA out there? And WHY dont they feed the horses? Whats the point in having them. Grrrr, thats really bugged me now. Them poor horses. And whats with the barbed wire??!!! I think we should all go over there and 'Horse nap' them all.

I've just written to them and typically have an undeliverable message pinging straight back to me. Will put pen to paper.

This sort of thing makes me sick to the stomach. The poor, poor wretched creatures.

I have emailed them and attached some of the pictures to show them why I shall never visit their country. Polo club?! honestly! it makes me sick! My OH works in Dubai and the polo club there is like a horsey 5* hotel! All their stables are air-conditioned!! As for endurance! well I bet those poor creatures could barely make it 5 steps let alone 125 odd miles! GRRRR!! It makes me mad!

i never ever open these links on here, i get too emotionally involved and fear i look stupid at work! yes i am at work but about to knock off so can be forgiven

OH MY GOD!!!!!! That is absolutely dreadful
Maybe the IHDG could rescue these???!!!!

in conditions like those and with little chance of escape - sorry - but those horses would be better off dead then living there in that state of pain and misery

at least dead their suffering would be over

the way to deal with this I suspect is bribery - if said official was given shedloads of dosh to hand over these nags to 'lunatic foreigners' he'd probably go for it

problem is that the sort of bribe he'd need is illegal and also beyond most charitable organisations, plus it would need a sort of undertaking not to restock - which is unlikely to be given

it is totally horrible to see that

and what is even worse is that some of the UK 'failed racehorses' get bought and sent to the far east to race - and when their racing days are over this is the sort of existence they could end up in ......

........if those horses could talk I bet a few started life at Newmarket or Lambourn and look where they are now.............

It is very sad.

But life is cheap in the third world. And the culture is so different.

The people of Borneo are willing to learn, look at how they are learning about Orangutans, and this owner is probably totally ignorant of how horses should be kept. As will be any grooms or stable staff. Unfortunately Borneo is not the place to keep horses but he has clearly planted grass for them so is on his way. (Grass is not found naturally in Borneo)
This is a time when the ILPH should go in to advise and support I feel. Help this man to keep his horses correctly or dispose of them humanely. I do feel it is cruelty borne out of ignorance.

I didnt experience corruption in Borneo unlike other places Ive been in the far east. Just lovely honest but very poor people lacking in education due to poverty.

The pictures are shocking , but you have to remember, they are there to get sympathy. I have been to Malaysia and horse riding on the beach and the horses are well cared for. They have to support a family (and these people eat off 20p per day in some parts) so are generally cared for. We have all seen the worst pictures from animal protection charities in the UK yet dont consider that it relates to the majority of horses over here. The same goes for malaysia. Not belittleing the situation but we need to put it in perspective..only the worst pictures are going to be on the site, as they want to gain your support.

wish this one was that simple mate, this man is a very rich politician and those horses are not trail horses but competition endurance horses he has purchased from all over, majority from Australia, hes record of neglect is a mile long but because of who he is, the vets and spca over there are accommodating, instead of putting the full weight of the law into action, which they have more than enough evidence for. The barbed was to keep them from windsucking and those gates are nailed shut they never get out.
