I'll let my friend know - he's just completed his 4 year apprentiship - and he could have just watched this video!

What amazes me is that it is illegal for an unregistered and unqualified farrier to shoe a horse in this country, yet any idiot can charge money for a trim!

Although it is not illegal for owners to trim their own horse's feet — as long as this is not in preparation for shoeing — Horse & Hound strongly believes they should not do so.

archive from 2005!! and if its good enough for H&H its good enough for me. i wanted to bid on the item and leave bad feedback saying horse now legless! but didnt think i should

The comments are from Oz, I assume that they shoe/trim their own horses there in the same way as rural folks in the US do? My Texan relatives and their cowboying (lol) buddies trim, and shoe their own...
But as for selling it in the UK ..Im logged into ebay now, im going to complain as the UK law states "it is a offence for anyone other than registered farriers or veterinary surgeons to carry out farriery other than to render immediate first aid"

Yes I expect it is for people who live out in the wilderness. There may be some novicey muppets who would buy it to do the trimming themselves, but I doubt it to be honest. I would think it would only appeal to people who have a general understanding.....however I want to know how he can teach people how to trim each of their horses the same?? No horse has the same shaped feet as another

.

I should just check out your information though before you make any complaints to Ebay LOL!! Because your facts are wrong I'm afraid. UK law states that anyone can trim their horses feet - there is no law about who can trim.

Terrifying, but only because just anybody can buy the video and think they can do it and we all know the consequences of bad trimming.

I have to say I would be quite interested to watch it, though I won't be buying it

Its ok Tia, Im off my high horse now! I was dithering the mouse over the "report this item" button but wasnt sure how to word it? So trimming is legal?
But my above quote is true, right? - regarding actually putting shoe to hoof, thats only allowed by farriers.. ?
Panicking now, thinking my farrier is actually a plumber..

Animal-talk does horse readings, those telepathic ones with a photo, my friend bought me one from her and it was the biggest pile of plop ever, she told me my horse loved our hacks and being out for hours and was scared of jumping,

the horse in question was sold by previous owner for napping 2 miles home with her and still naps, hates hacking, and guess what, is a XC demon and loves it, how wrong can you be!

LMAO @ farrier is plumber!!
grin.gif

Yes you are right that no-one but a registered farrier can prepare a horses foot for shoeing, and only he can put the shoe on.....however anyone can perform a barefoot trim under UK law.

Flintus, has you do make me laugh!!!!

Ok, a friend of mine went on a course for bare hoof trimming, first she went to a seminar, then paid about £400 for a 5 day course... I was very scared for her as she said that she would be trimming her own horses hooves... yikkes....she really did believe in it... she then bought herself an expensive warmblood, I asked if she would continue with the barehoof trimming and she said yes!! Well, luckily.. thankfully I did quiz her on this a while back and she said that she was having a farrier trim his hooves...because he was fitting shoes too phew....I do think barehoof trimming can work and understand the methods BUT do it yourself in 10 mins... give me a break!!

And people wonder why they end up with lame ned's
Im seriously worrid.
I'll trim my horses hooves...
In five years when im a qualified Farrier...
Till then i'll leave it the the PROFESSIONALs.
