My thoughts too, dont think I shall be rushing out to buy one tbh

I appreciate that sports have to move on & not stagnate but if this jacket is the way forward then something is really wrong. The current jackets are really smart & professional, this design is far too casual...& far too pricey......ONLY £199.....where do they get their ideas from. Do they actually believe the old wives tale that all horse owners are wealthy & that £199 is nothing to them. They need to get real!!

i have to say i agree with jess_sj i like the fitted show jackets, they look alot smarter and soom we will look like we are out schooling our horses.

If you are in the top 250 you can wear any coloured jacket, the rest of us have a choice of 6 - can't remember what they are though.....

If you have your multi coloured personalised top 250 jacket what happens when you become 251st in the rankings?

Hehe....someone didn't really think too long and hard about the implications of this did they

squid35 - The new jacket comes in 6 different colours ( not sure what colours yet). You can put your name and sponsors on so you'd pick a colour to match i guess??

In fact, if you're in the Top 250 you can register your own / sponsors colour scheme on the jackets. The mere mortals amongst us have to make do with a bog standard 6 different colour schemes that have pre-designed for us

£199????? Are they KIDDING??? Jeezus! What an absolute rip off. Glad its NOT the one we first thought! This jacket looks ok, but certainly not worth even HALF £199!!

I very much supported this new idea of modernising the BSJA however I wont be forking out that much for the jacket. Its a shame and it will put a lot of people off which defies the entire point of these!

Slightly misleading
Was NOT launched at HOYS, launch target BETA (Feb 07)
So not now an option for riders
Am also not aware if TopTack are on the approved supplier list

im sure@the weekend when i was showjumping i saw a guy with one of those jackets on, well he wasnt wearing a normal jacket anyway! it caught my attention, i just thought he was wearing a very very fitted casual jacket and i woundered if the judges would say anything, but obviously it was one of the new jackets. i didnt think it looked that smart and not worth the price!

The answers the same as usual.....someone out there is going to make alot of money out of this.

I think that standards are dropping all over. The current jackets look really smart. When you get decked out to compete you feel special & it's all part of competition. Then BSJA come up with this money spinning piece of c**p & expect people to pay £199 for it........I know it won't happen but it would be nice if no one bought any......then BSJA may actually consult with its members over these things for once.

I am a BSJA member and Im all for the idea. I voted for the jackets when the poll was on the site. However I am disappointed with the outcome - the jackets simply cost way too much. I dont like the BSJA much anyway (and compete under them grudginly!) because they are very disorganised and in it purely for the money. £199 is a disgrace, the BSJA obviously only want the money and dotn really care if it helps modernise show jumping.

I believe we are very much behind the times with riding clothing here. In the US, I watched some of the highest riders (Beezie Madden etc.) competing - they all wore shirts of ANY type. It was hot so obviously this was pratical, but the fact that they weren't MADE to wear a specific shirt of specific colour (like here, ie. can only wear pastel shirts etc.) is good.

To be honest, our sport is a sport! Every other sport has practical clothing. Wearing a show jacket on very cold / wet days or hot days is NOT fun. Its stupid! I support the BSJA's idea but I do think the money is a big issue and I will not be buying this jacket purely on that basis.

I think its a complete joke, it looks cheap and nasty and looks like a jacket that dont fit, as far as the price is concerned did they just pluck a number out of the sky!!
I love my made to measure jacket and WILL NOT be giving it up for one of those ones!

Do we have to wear them? If so then why dont we get them for free as part of our membership - seeing as we all pay enough as it is!!

Totally agree with coppertop - can just see all the whitaker crazy kiddies going mad for one this chrimbo!!!

It's such a shame that these jackets have been introduced. I love the traditional aspects of all equestrian sports, would it have been better to introduce new fabrics and technology making the traditional 'show jacket' a little more comforatable, but reatining the classic look?? the unfortunate thing is, that these jackets will sell like hot cakes, and the shows will look like a complete mess with some riders opting to stick with the traditional and others 'investing' in the new jackets.

National teams such as GB, Ireland and other teams such as Team eirkson (SP?), Zangerschiede (SP?) etc etc have all introduced colourfull livery for their team members, whilst maintaining the classic cut, this creates a team identity. I think that this is the way forward. The bsja have made a mistake, what next?? jumping in polo-shirts in the summer?? do you remember the jackets they introduced for the Daewoo GP Series? Erh!

That jacket is awful, it is ugly, expensive and looks nowhere near smart enough to be seen in a competition ring.

Christ, talk about going to the dogs. If thats modernisation they can shove it.
