This is why I prefer Freezemarks to Microchips!

Don't RSCPA inspectors carry scanners?
Most cats and dogs chippedrather than freezemarked
They should be able to trace owners from either

Not often. Dogs and cats are usually scanned when they are taken to the vets.

I have been waiting since November to get mine done

There just aren't enough people round here to make it worthwhile for them to come and spend a day marking.

Mine have both a chip and a freezemark. We had custom numbers done - yes it was an extra £25 per mark but the horses are for life and it make us smile to see BBH1 and LBH1 side by side.

If anyone has a mare, a coloured, a stally or a minature, I would get both done. as I have with my girlie. Shes got a personalised freezemark too!

If a gelding esp a big one, I went for freezemarking alone.

Only cos the favoured targets are the former rather than the latter (gelding no good for breeding, big horses harder to hide and to handle).

My coloured cob has both. Wheni first got him he just had a micro chip. I went to check him once and discovered a pikey looking at him in our field. Straight on the phone to arrange a freezemark as well. Cost £56.

Don't blame him, the coloured in your signature is lovely, my OH has a real thing for coloured cobs and is often seen eyeballing them suspiciously. Not that he's a pikey, in fact I'm worried that I might get home to find he's nicked a pikey horse and its living in the back garden!!

I also have Bodey freeze marked and micro chipped. He was just micro chipped but because I had a pikey offer to buy him from me while I was out hacking (only offered £400, cheeky bugger) I got him freeze marked also. He also followed me up the road, so as soon as I got home I got him booked in to be freeze marked. I didn’t sleep at all well that night, even went back to the yard later to check he was still there.

I think I paid just over £100 for the freeze marking and 5 years membership. Worth every penny.
