Quite a long article but basically someone has brought a Malamute puppy from an online advert, it seems it has come in from abroad (Bulgaria where rabies is apparently endemic) and they met the seller in a car park near Dover. Paperwork they were given was false and pup does not appear to have had rabies vaccination, This pup is now in kennels as owners no longer want it. There were 5 in the back of the van so the others are presumably somewhere in the UK.:(

Can't get to the article, but surely (I assume Dover=ferry?) the officials at port should have been checking vans etc? Do they not? Jeez that's a pretty serious possible outcome..

After the "rage" incident at the vets last year we said it will be when, not if, Rabies arrives but surely the people purchasing these puppies must know something is dodgy?

Cheapness rules!

Having worked at the port the checks are pretty rubbish and the people with vans and lorries that get pulled tend to be regular travellers through the border.

I have seen so many horses go through with no checking what so ever. Its probably happening a lot more regular than we think.

It was a dog paper too, shame on them, although I suppose they can only report what they are told.
There are details in that article re keeping quarantine if anyone who is concerned feels like signing it.

Just why would anyone be stupid enough to buy these puppies?
£250 + £250 delivery = £500 which is more than they would pay for a pet Siberian born in the UK.
The whole pets travel scheme needs tightening up.
