After all the problems Ive had with Archie, mainly down to the fact he was over jumped when young, seeing a 4 yo jumping this makes me feel very sad.
He'll prob end up like my poor Arch

I was more shocked with advert saying that have got 30 more horses arriving, who on earth do they think will be buying them all

i'm sure he'd make a much better shape over something of reasonable size - to me the pictuers show he has been forced to the jump and then gone "Oh [****]" It just looks rather untidy not quite fluent, also it means nothing free schooling over the jump it isnt even broken???
Price is relative though and i'm sure he'd sell with that right up without those pictures

Is it the height that makes you cringe or just the fact that their teaching a horse to jump at that age? many of the top level show jumpers that are produced are trained that way, and are starting to jump courses small courses when there 4 year olds, I'm not saying this is right or wrong (in fact my personal view is similar to yours), but its easy to criticize yet turn up at these events and applaud them when they do well without thinking what goes on, its a business and in a lot of cases if a horses can jump and looks like he's one for the future, even at a young age, people don't wait around, the sooner he's out training and competing the sooner he's earning his keep.

Exactly what i was thinking!
And all pro yards loose jump youngsters to get an idea of ability.

It is so easy to criticise but for all we know the horse has loose jumped for the pictures and thats it - it will also be loose jumped a few times for viewers but it is hardly going to kill it??

I am looking at youngsters and i want to see them loose jumped, if that makes me cruel and evil then fine but i really struggle to see how anyone can buy a horse to showjump without seeing it jump first??

yep there are classes for young horses, usually ridden by very good pros that help the horse over, but I sometimes think they over face them too. but I have to say I once saw a 18 month foal (with the short baby tail) loose schooling over a jump in an advert on horse mart! Now THAT was horrid and the poor pony looked utterly confused and shocked!

My old Farrier's young KWPN stallions were doing something last year where they were loose jumping, they were 3 and 4.
Im not good with typing lol! I cant remember what thats called
