This makes me sad, horse for £50

I think it's sad - because here is a horse that is no longer wanted.

Give me fifty quid and it's yours. At 18 where's it going to end up.

If they don't want it - (sorry Quirky) shoot it.

50 QUID....

they'd get at least 200 at the Abattoir....

Or at least have the decency to give him away!!!!! Bless him,who knows where he will end up (but it wont be in my field unfortunately!!! - cant save them all!)

Don't be sorry, I agree with you this time

Whole thing is a bit odd... why would you call a grey horse "Red"?! The grey in the photo looks lovely. But no horse really ends up as a companion or being sold for £50 or even £500 unless theres something really wrong... do they?

Possibly because they're not grey when fist born. It could have been chestnut!

How can anyone judge what the seller intends from that advert? Yes you're all right, who knows where he could end up - he could end up somewhere that he is loved and accepted for the companion that he is bought for. He could spend his remaining days in a beautiful field with equine friends and be expected to do as much or as little as he wishes.

I have an ancient horse that I was given by someone; he will live on my blissful farm until he dies. He has the best of care and he goes out for rides once in a while. His owner was very particular in rehoming him - just because a horse is free or for sale at a pittance, doesn't mean the owner is not going to be very careful in her rehoming procedures.

LOL I know a woman who called her foal Raven and then he went grey. I think it seems odd because she says could be ridden, but hasn't been by them. How does she know? I like to think that she just wants a lovely home over the price though. If he was a bit bigger I'd go look for my OH I must admit. Good thing I don't have any land at the mo as I'm in hampshire!

I agree with this. I have a waiting list.

Just read the ad. I think he will find a loveing home. Wish he was closer i know a lot of people that would gladly buy him and give him the best of life for the rest of his lofe.
Of course i do understand concerns this does not always happen but i feel the person will do the best, they probably feel it is better than loan/long term loan and £50 is a token payment. It is just speculation as none of us know the full story.

People who get rid of there old boys and gals at that late stage are really annoying. If he is not doi9ng any ham let him live his last few years somewhere happily. I hope he gets a lovley home, if he can be ridden I'd love him at 18 he could have another 15 years ahead of him! My mum needds a gelding, happy hack no exciting quirkiness and hee looks like he could do the job!

:)

Perhaps he isn't happy? Perhaps he is lonely? Perhaps they have him as an only horse and feel that his well being is with someone who has other horses for him to interact with?

Sometimes things happen in people's lives that mean they have to do something they'd never intended. We don't know why this horse is for sale or what the owner's circumstances are so shouldn't be so quick to judge.
He does look a lovely chap and I hope he finds a good home.

Sorry but you are?

For all you know the owners might have fallen on hard times or mybe as Tia has pointed out they might have a very good reason for selling it.

And lastly they can do whatever they want for whatever reason - its THEIR horse...

he looks a real sweety, i would think it's a typo. if he was up here he could come live with me. i don't think its fair to say "if they don't want it shoot it"
for all we kno he could be sound and be a nice occasional hack for someone. you don't just shoot horses cause you don't want them

just my opinion, and respect other peoples opinion too
smile.gif
i couldn't imagine shooting poppy or abby cause they were gettin old
