This might be a stupid question but can people smell DEET?

My DEET containing Nettex cream seems to be pretty much unscented?

I can smell it still after its on the horse. But am using up some from last year when I got a bit carried away stocking up so I suppose it could have changed? And I do have a strong sense of smell.

I've used itch stop cream and summer fly cream, both contain DEET, neither smell much.

Yeah, the itch stop stuff. It seems to keep the bugs away, I was just surprised as it really doesn't smell much. Unlike my Coopers which honks!

I found I really noticed all types of fly sprays, until I used a really really strong one for a while, now I don't notice the 'normal' ones as much- perhaps they destroy your sense of smell!!

Most of the non DEET ones contain citronella which is what smells, DEET in itself, not so much. Certainly the human DEET products don't smell.
