This photo makes my buttocks clench!!!

Pardubice should be banned cos it's not fair to let horses jump fences with ditches behind. The horses can't see how broad (or do you say deep?) the jumps are, how deep the ditches are and therefore they can't estimate how to jump. Far too many got hurt or died in the past. I don't think we need races like Pardubice...

Your right of course, lets ban the grandnational too. and the Irish national, and badminton...
Oh and hunting, oh wait we already did that.
Lets just stop horse sport all together.
Any one for a hack??

If anyone is interested in the velke paradubice race have a watch of this :)

Let's just ban cruelty of any kind and I am sure this world would be a better place - for human beings and also for animals

oh yes they are!! It was pointed out with pride by the RAI3 commentator. Only solace is that the jockeys are allowed to beat each other up with them during the race. I noticed some spurs too.

Good lord! Whips AND spurs?! Next thing they'll be putting two bits in their mouth, a nice short curb chain and jamming their chins against their neck! The crueltym the utter, utter cruelty. Though clearly this would never happen in the UK...oh no, we are all tree hugging fluffy bunnies :)

LMAO
This post is crazy...

I've had a look at the link - what is wrong with that racing?
Would wild horses be able to see how big/if a ditch was behind a hill/bush/fence??
No....so it also tests their concentration, skill and reaction time...
:confused::confused:

wild horses rather avoid an obstacle...they are seldom forced to jump while race horses (no matter what race) don't really have a choice...
but anyways, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, and I simply dislike races (believe me, I have got my reasons).

I had a look at your link, I can honestly say that, yes, they jumps look difficult, and there are a lot of them.

I cant really see other than the amount of jumps that it looks a lot different to our GN

I am only guessing that the horses entered are expensive and would only be entered for the race if the owners truly beileved they could finish it, I cant see it is any more cruel than eventing or any other steeple chase races

its part of the culture...its a tradition.

Personally, I don't think "tradition" is a valid reason on its own to keep any practice. It's tradition to "break" horses in the American west by tossing a saddle on them and bucking them until they're exhausted, it's a tradition in Mexican rodeo to trip horses with ropes, breaking bones and terrifying them.

Heck, it's tradition to perform female circumcision and stone women for adultery in some places. Nope, sorry - tradition doesn't hold a lot of weight for me.

its actually quite exciting.. ive seen it live and its an italian tradition so its been around for a LONG time...
its like normal racing only without any rules or restrictions... and that concerns the crowd as well.. sometimes it gets crazy where some of the spectators run across the road where the horses are galloping and get trampled...or at the end they try and pull off the jockey... that bit is kinda scary..
but i guess if u try it it must give u SOME andrenaline rush! :P ;)

Sorry for anyone that didn't get my sarcasm I fully support and feel quite strongly that traditions like this and paradubice should be kept alive.
I watch it every year and these horses are treated like the top race horses they are.
I have never seen the Italian race however but would like to think the same about that.

I see that you are still being facetious and shallow. How sad, I had presumed that given time you might well have turned into a pleasant and interesting person. You have proved me wrong.
You obviously know nothing about the palio races so shush.

SERIOUSLY?! Have seen horses running on worse ground and in a worse condition!!

I suppose horses shouldn't be allowed to jump big jumps either....and eventing is obviosuly cruel, lets ban that too....and polo, that seems very risky, all those people swinging sticks around....your horse may slip on the road and be fatally injured, lets ban hacking too.....hey, lets ban everything and all become fluffy bunny brushers :mad:

I'm gonna be in your gang. . . :D

Agree completely!!

:eek::eek:

what ever your views on racing (here or abroad), I think JoG has the right idea... I'd vote we leave other cultures to their traditions and we'll stick to ours, or at least to those that the government hasn't banned. :smirk:

but, in any case... they've got more balls than me, and at least they're wearing hats!

AGREE

well least in the paradubice they were over the age of 5 none of them were undeveloped or still yearlings :D
agree with everyone who says just to let traditions get on with it lol
islamic dont like us eating pork but we still doand yeah they prob think its cruel, but they cant ban us from that!

in the last 10 years 50 horses have been killed in the various palios around Itay. 50 known deaths but how many others ended up at the slaughter house due to injuries? The palio trainers and owners don't usually bother treating their injured horses-they butcher them. Did you know that the majority are English bred TB's who are too slow for the racecourse?

not very pretty pictures, are they?

These pictures are horrific - made me feel sick. For the person who compared it to English horseracing, it is not comparable in any way. In England the horse would be destroyed within minutes.
