I was just scrolling through FB last night and came across this chappy..

I don't think I've seen a fatter horse! From the comments on the photo, everyone was adorning over him saying how do you get a geldings neck so well muscled?

What do you guys think?

Well I have seen fatter

But that doesn't condone the hideousness of the sight of that poor pony.

I'm sure I know the woman riding.

Whether its fat or not, I don't think you should post it on a public forum without permission, sorry.

Hes a lovely stamp of cob

Well, if it's gone viral on facebook, I doubt it matters too far if it's posted on here too.

Lovely stamp of a cob? You can just about compare him to those horrible halter bred QH's. I can't stand obese horses but I'm in the minority. That horse IMHO is a welfare risk too. But somehow this ok. Strange.

Terri

The Halter bred QH's are just horrid. They're like the bodybuilders of the equine world!

As for the post, I don't see a problem with posting the picture if it's already public

My pony is a little on the chubby side and I was worried he was too fat. I must say this picture makes him look like an underfed pony. I feel much better now :o

Don't let it change your diet plans though  Just because there are worse out there... ;)

Haha of course not he hasn't been worked in a while due to my exams and him catching a chill so he's a bit on the chubby side but is healthy. ;)

What a sickening picture, that poor pony is a health timebomb just waiting to go off. :( Mine is on a strict diet, and not a fraction near as fat as that.

I thought the rider looked a bit like Princess Anne.:o

Exam period is almost done so you'll soon be enjoying what summer we have () and he'll be fit in no time then :D

Isn't it funny how if it were skin and bone people would be all over her about neglect. Yet this, IMO, is worse.... Poor pony. Hopefully when/B] it gets lami the owner will be more responsible.

Sadly I have also seen fatter.:( Looks like a nice cob under all that lard.

What do you do with a fat horse? Feed it down a bit?;)

A vet or welfare organisation could do with having a word with the owner (they may have it on a diet already-you never know) about just how cruel and unhealthy being allowed to be that overweight is.

Obese. Dangerously so. However I saw at least 4 horses at the Bywell show on Monday who weren't far off this. Two of them were lame in the collecting ring. I have to say it reminded me why I no longer enjoy going to shows. Not that I'm the perfect owner or a world expert but I do know how to keep my horses healthy, and can ride without being aggressive!

So after some the replies I had to google Halter bred Quarter horses  Why, why would someone breed a horse to look like that (well unless it's for food but they don't eat them). Do they have the same genetic disorder as the 'double-muscled' Belgian Blues I wonder? If so I also wonder if they have the same problems breeding and foaling. Horse-world gone mad imo.
