I got a quote for moving my horse from a professional transportation company and for them to come from perth to bishopton, pick my horse up and take him to newton mearns then go back to perth is £80.

It seems a bit too good to be true - any opinions? I have absolutely no idea how much it should cost

Have no idea of the distances involved in that journey. Can you give us an idea of roughly how many miles it would entail?

how far is it? use multimap for accuracy if necessary.
fwiw years ago a friend of mine who has a horse transport company was charging £1 a mile for the round trip from his door, back to his door... and that was before the cost of diesel went stratospheric...

Gosh thats cheap. It was £1 a mile years ago. Was the company reccomended to you, have you heard of them before? If so I think Id go for it.

Its does seem cheap.
maybe double check in a round about way not direct!

Maybe its becase they are taking other horses so the cost is shared and saves everyone money.

I had mine moved from Northampton to York in 2004 and it cost me 250 pounds, so it does sound ever so cheap, perhaps a bit of discreet investigating might be in order...?

I did think it was rather cheap but they're a relatively new company so maybe they're trying to compete with everyone else?
Ive emailled them back to see if they can take another three ponies with my horse so we will see what they come back with.

dibbin - have pm-ed you. :)

It does sound very cheap compared to other companies but I would presume as they also do self drive hire and you could hire a box yourself from them for the day for 95 pounds it makes sense that they would move him (with others?) themselves cheaper. Their site looks pretty genuine to me.

unfortunately I can't drive a trailer/lorry on my license so hire is not an option. their site has testimonials on it.
I have the number for a lady in Ayr so I might giver her a ring and see what she can do it for

If it helps I have just had a quote of 220+vat for moving a horse from north of Aberdeen to Lancs from a very reputable firm. Journey is about 350 miles, so yours sounds about right...
