I lost my gorgeous, kind, honest, gentle, talented, perfect boy and my best friend to colic on Tuesday night. He was fine at 8:30 PM, started to colic at 9:00 PM and was gone by 4:30 AM. I was there the whole time, until he passed away. There was nothing anyone could do, it was so, so terrible and very severe.

It still feels like a nightmare, my brain just cannot seem to process this. It was just too soon. He was only 11, owned by me since he was 5. I will never love another horse like I loved and cherished him.

As one of my friends once said when talking about him, "If only we had more souls like him, the world would have been a much better place" :(

having lost 2 of mine to colic and my friends horse, I know how sudden it can be and so devastating.

I am so sorry he was a beautiful horse, words cannot express the pain your going through, but your among friends here and many who have lost equines this way.

nothing to say but sending support and hugs xx

Thank you everyone for your kind words, it means so much to me as (strangely) I just do not want to be with people that I know (except husband) when I am really sad, I have a phobia about crying in public and I'd rather pour my heart out to kind and understanding strangers.

What a terrible thing to go through. He looks like he had a really kind eye. My thoughts are with you xx

Yes, he was the kindest horse. He was a breeding stallion but he could be ridden and led by kids with just basic tack.

This is his last ever photo, taken last Saturday, ridden by a 13-year old boy with me on my other horse:

Wow, what a horse. So sorry you've lost him, he sounds exceptionally special. Take time to be sad xx

So sorry for your loss.
He looked a wonderful lad.
Do you have any of his progeny yourself, as you said he was a breeding stallion?
He will live on through them.
Thinking of you.

Oh my goodness, I literally haven't logged on in months, and did so tonight. Your post was the first I saw. I am so sorry 1st1 for you and your husband. I always loved seeing your updates on your beautiful boy. RIP. Such a special special horse. xxxxxx

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to respond, I find it really comforting and, even though he is no more, I am still very proud of my beautiful boy.

No we don't as we did not have a mare ourselves nor the facilities to bring on a foal. And (as we humans are stupidly prone to) we thought we had time :(. Who knows, we may perhaps buy one of his foals in the future...

Thank you, you have always been kind and helpful to me when I posted about him. I wish I had better news when you logged on after such a long time. I hope you and your lovely boy are doing fine (you have also bought a little mare if I remember correctly).

That is the horrid truth, that we have sometimes very little time to plan our goodbyes and often realise we don't have enough photos of them. Goodbye is a horrid time but when it happens so quickly it is even harder as you have no time to prepare.

One of mine started to colic at 8.30pm and was gone at 2pm again too sever - entrapment tragic on such a beautiful horse she was 5 years old.

I know hun it's hard at the moment but it might help you if you find one of his sons or daughters - so part of him will live on with you, It can be a comfort.

Did you get some of his mane?

We are all here for you to cry or express your feeling or anything you want as so many have been in your boat and know what your going through.
