As title suggests really. Who uses them are they any good and which brand do people recommend.

I've just got myself a new pony. Welsh cob (has to be 😂) flat short back and no withers. He's also nervous so don't want to flaff about trying different saddles on him while he's still settling in.

I'm starting right from the beginning again as he is nervous and hasn't had a consistent start to his education. So there isn't a huge rush but I'd like something there ready for when we are.

So what are people's thoughts on saddle pads and treeless saddles in general. My long term plan is to show him undersaddle.

Thanks xx

If he is nervy about being ridden and you have never ridden in a pad before steer well clear! They take a bit of adjusting to as it's basically bareback with stirrups. There is absolutely nothing to hold you in place or support you. So unless you are super balanced and can ride well with your seat and legs go for a normal saddle!
