Do you own a TB and compete in Eventing, Showjumping or Dressage? If so please would you help me by completing my Thoroughbred Personality Questionnaire.

I am a third year undergraduate Equine Management student at Moulton College, my final project is looking to see if there is any variation within the Thoroughbred breed’s personality in relation to the different disciplines it excels in; being either Eventing, Showjumping or Dressage. This research aims to improve horse welfare by advancing the selection process of finding the most suitable home for a horse.

The questionnaire will only take around 10 minutes to complete. I would be very grateful if you would you forward this message on to anyone else you know that has a competitive Thoroughbred.

Please use the link below to access the questionnaire:

Thank you for the information you have provided.

Done, but found some questions difficult as the horse can be very different ridden as opposed to handled, and is quite complex generally! (For example, can be donkey-like sometimes, and the complete opposite other times, is both curious and frightened of what he's curious about, etc :p).

Likewise, hope I have filled it in right/understood the 1 - 7 right. Another generally chilled very easy to handle horse. Agree with Nocturnal, mine is totally chilled with things other horses are difficult about but can be highly suspicious of a day to day object.

Mine too! Eg. is perfectly fine with a rattly livestock lorry hurtling past within inches of his bum, but was terrified of the shadow of a telegraph wire on the floor..

I think mine will have come out quite randomly! He has a very split personality like others have said. He can be incredibly stubborn and argumentative and requires a very specific approach to 'encourage' him to do what you are 'asking' - definatley no telling here! On the other hand can be a complete gent and can baby kids around on his back and I hack for miles bareback on him.
He loves company with another horse, but can become quite posessive of said friend. Will not stable alone, but will graze alone!
He's an odd one! :rolleyes::D

sounds like mine, very funny!!

Everyone on here has pretty much said the same thing - "he's not a typical TB and he/she's very laid back" - as is my guy.

So on the evidence - your typical TB has the personality of a flower power hippy and if they were human would be wearing a tiedye t-shirt, smoking summin obscure and sitting under a tree?

So where the heck are all these nutters everyone else keeps going on about?

Done (Randrich). Hope I answered them correctly, I got a bit confused. My mare is totally calm and unflappable when you are in the saddle or leading her however very quirky as she is agraphobic in a large field (even with company) and can panic (even bolting through a fence away from her foal) if she doesnt feel secure. When I fell off once (not her fault) on a group hack, because I fell off and therefore lost the contact on her reins she lost her security and "lost it" bolting for several miles - again she left her hacking companions just seemed to lose her head in panic.
She also windsucks terribly.
However - With the security of a person she is as bold and calm as a police horse and very very talented and quick to learn and LOVES to work. Best horse in the world! Honest!
Hope this helps.

Thank you to everyone who has completed my questionnaire, the questionnaire is now closed.

Those who have asked to know the results, I will provide you with the information as soon as I can.

Thanks very much
