I used to hate them. Scrawny necks, rangey hind quarters...

Until I decided to try one out for sale. I think I might even prefer them to cobs!

All of the ones I've ridden have been very considerate and kind (all except one
blush.gif
) We didn't buy the one for sale because the owner said she doubted he'd pass a vetting, but I'm now looking for TBs and TB crosses.

The necks aren't scrawny... They're elegant!
 
I love um!! all my mad horses have been TB bar one and that was an Arab X Conni!

I think if you can get a good TB then they will look after you!
 
I love them but i can hardly describe any of mine as scrawny.
More a leg at each corner with loads of depth and good quarters.
 
I would never buy a pure tb, because I think they are such high maintenance, and quite hot. I dont think I could cope, Id probably end up with an excessively fit horse that I couldnt handle; they can also be quite fragile, (I like my horses to winter out etc.)

But I think they are beautiful creatures, for certain people & jobs they are brilliant. My horse is actually 50% tb, I think it gives him so much presence, also makes him quite easy to get fit etc....
 
Jenmayni I have seen far more hot warmbloods about than hot thoroughbreds.
So many times Ive been to dressage competiions and there will always be a few warmbloods that are pratting about like nutcases and my TB's are totally calm and chilled.
And a TB that is good quality and that is looked after properly will never have a scrawny neck or poor hindquarters.Its down to them having the correct food and care..
As for toughness, admittedly some are fragile, but then again you get others that are as tough as houses.
Over to You is aged 18 and he is pure TB bred for racing- and he has evented for what must be about 12 seasons now including the last 5 years or so at 4 star level doing Badminton/Burghley or the Championships every year.
You cant get much tougher than that!
He has never missed a season's eventing- compare this to the likes of other top class horses like the Irish sport horse Supreme Rock who've had to be retired aged 14 with niggling injuries.

Oh back to the point- yes I love TB's obviously!
 
I dont like them, I really dont know why but i dont like them, that is my opinion, probably due to the fact that the ones I have come across havent been the best examples of the breed, But even so I dont like them as some people dont like other horses.

I like chunkier horses like my boy now I feel like I am riding a proper horse lol. I prob get shot down in flames for saying I dont like them but my opinion on them.
 
I love em! I have my own scrawny little tb (slowly getting less scrawny!) and i love her so much, i love all her little quirks and she is the most loving and gentle horse i have ever known. However, she does have her tb moments and they really are a completely different breed! I dont agree about them not being tough, she is very very tough! Obviously she has thinny skin and everything else but if its freezing cold she wnt be the one thats shivering or if shes injured she is very brave! Personally, i prefer slightly chunkyer horses that she is but i wouldnt swap her for the world!
 
love them, my pure TB isn't at all as hot-headed as everyone thinks, although she enjoys her jumping, she is almost lazy to hack out and school, and is a total dope in the stable! and this is a TB mare and all!
 
I like them to handle, most of the ones I've known have been very gentle horses & even if they decide to have a dance around it's all talk & no action!

However I never feel right riding them. There's never seems to be enough horse - neck to slight, nothing to sit on or put my leg around & a definate lack of push from behind (but I feel at home on my too big for me ID & compared to him most things feel weedy). Also the drama queen routine can start to irritate me, I get to the stage I'd rather they just threw a tantrum & got the whole thing over & done with.

Yea, Ill go with that. The warmbloods, are usually the ones doing the majority of the buggering around. I suppose I stereotype alittle, due to my personal exposure to TB's (and lack of exposure to warmbloods!)

Fair point as well in the over to you Vs supreme rock. And I have to confess I dont expect my conne x tb to still be doing intense work at 18, due to niggling problems! I still think of them as fragile, more in a "cant chuck it out in a group of 20 horses for the summer way" though.
 
Have to say I like them ... Missy is by rachelle Comet Tb and he is absolutely gorgeous ... Let me tell you something hes far from scrawny lol .


Missy is an ISH ... her mother is half and half ( id x tb ) shes more like an irish draught , whereas I think Missy is going to take after daddy .
 
Absolutely love them, all mine are TB's (and ex-racers) and I'd never have anything else. Lots of people seem to have this misconception that they're complete nutters, when in actual fact if they've raced they've been there and got the t-shirt. My boy has gone out in front of the crowds at The Gold Cup and Grand National so he's not going to care less about an ordinary show ground!

I love them!!
 
Love 'em and got one! He has a fabulous character and isnt phased or spooked by anything. He can get a bit excited especially when in a group but so do alot of horses.
 
Love'em I know I'm biased but they are just beautiful horses, mine is just a lovely guy, he wants to march out and enjoys speed, like me.
 
Wouldn't be without my tb now, different story to this time last week when I could quite happily have seen the back of him and his attitude, but thats what ultimately I love about them, their characteristics and quirkiness.
