Horse has come in from the field with what looks like a thoroughpin. There is no heat, he is not lame just this ugly but not terrifiically large selling. I've taken him out of work. Now what?

i'd get your vet to double check it is just a thoroughpin but if it is i woudlnt worry too much, i had a mare with one in each hind leg and it didnt do her any harm, kept her in work and they went down after turnout or work, you could try magenetic boots that might help;)

I bought a seven year old eight years ago who had a thoroughpin. Not only did he consistently win county level small hunter classes (v.small thoroughpin) but show jumped to 1.20m, hunted every winter and is currently enjoying his first few hunter trials of the season. Not a day's trouble with it. It is just a bursal enlargement and a "technical unsoundness" in reality very little problem.

Thanks for the replies. I brought his majesty in from the field this evening and the swelling had gone. I had to look twice because the swelling had been quite big hence the post. Hopefully it won't have re-emerged in the morning.
