Does anyone use a Thorowgood cob saddle on their young horses that aren't cobs, ie a TB x that has undefined shoulders/withers?

I have a young TBx mare who has a very flat back and undefined withers and I recently had to get her a new saddle. I asked saddle fitter about the cob fit synthetics and she said the only problem with them is that they would be too wide at the back and because of this would put pressure on the top of her ribs. She demonstrated this and Tilly did indeed flinch. I ended up with a close contact jumping saddle as she also has very wide shoulders and this allows her to move more freely.

I guess it depends exactly how wide your horse is!

I have the Kent & Masters cob saddle (which is made by the same people as the Thorowgood, and the same shape) on my TBX. He's broad shouldered and flat backed with barely any withers, and it fits him great, so it all depends on the shape of your horse.

WE have one on a 3 year old tb who has gone from a narrow/medium fit to an x wide in 7 months :D and saddler reckons that he will go up another size as well eek :O
