My saddler has recommended a high wither dressage saddle for one of our new horses.

They look good, does anyone have one and what do you think? We'd want a second hand one but a good quality one. Where's best to try?

Hi, WHen I got my boy he had such high withers that nothing, and I tried alot of saddles, would fit him except the Thorowgood Hi Wither saddles. I started with a GP and then bought the dressage. After having ridden in an Albion Dressage saddle for years I was dubious as to how the change would be, but I'm really happy with it. It has really helped to be able to change the gullets, and as he changed his shape I had my fingers crossed that the Albion would fit him, but it never did!

I don't have a Thorowgood but I have a Kent & Masters which my saddle fitter tells me are the same saddles but in leather. My boy is a high withered TB and it fits him brilliantly. I have the S-Series High Wither GP and I'm very pleased with it so far. It's comfortable to ride in too and was reasonably priced. I imagine there's plenty of decent second hand ones on eBay. X

i bought my thorowgood dressage off ebay! its one of the earlier models, with only fish inserts, but it is high wither!
its very comfy, incredibly light and very easy to keep clean, horse really enjoys working in it.
it only cost £131 and once cleaned up (came to us a little grubby! :O) looked brand new :)

Yes, I have the T8 TG dressage I think it is (mine is the part leather part synthetic one that Thorowgood do) on one of my horses and it's a good budget dressage saddle and offers a really good adaptive fit. The Thorowgood's are also head and shoulders above the Wintecs in this area, in my opinion.

My only negative with the Thorowgood dressage saddle if I had to pick one is that the seat isn't very deep - not much difference really to the GP seat I felt. But otherwise, fab :)
