Does anyone have any experience withthe Thorogood Fish system as my Griffing GP saddle has decided to be too wide now and I wondered if any one has had any success using the inserts to decrease the gullet width?
It will probably be a temporary measure until I can replace it but sort of broke after shelling out on a new dressge saddle - oopsie!
Thanks in advance

I have a saddle with this for my warmblood. The fish bits go behind the horses shoulders so increase/decrease bulk here. I have adjusted them a few times when my horse has gained or lost muscle/weight and they do help.

They are very good but the adjutment they make is not huge, it's just for finite fitting. The saddle (gullet)width needs to be correct to start with.

It is common for horses to lose muscle and fat at this time of year due to colder weather and reduced work. All you can do is put them in and try the saddle again. It may help as a temporary measure as long as the saddle essentially fits, just sitting a bit lower due to loss of soft tissue under the points.

I use mine for when my horse puts on/loses condition/muscle seasonally. they don't make a HUGE amount of difference but still useful i think.

That's what I was thinking, just until I can build up her back muscles again with long-reining and hill work - she was out of work with illness for best part of 2 months so increasingher work atm - thanks for the advice, just have to find the fish now!

Put the fish in and get a prolite pad. That should make up the difference of one width. It's not a permenant measure but will make her comfortable until she fills out again.
