Ive decided for my girls 21st birthday I will commit to getting her a new saddle!

Because of her age I really want something lightweight and have been shown the T4.

I just wondered if anyone else out there has one and how they are rated?

I have the saddler coming out on Saturday for a proper fitting session, all very exciting.

Would love to know your comments or reccomendations for other saddles suitable for the elderly back!!

Light weight, easy to clean, comfortable, adjustable, can be re-flocked, if fitted by a good saddle fitter and you find one that does fit 100% then yes, there worth every penny.

Some people find them cheap and tacky and wouldnt be seen dead competing in one but then we dont all have the money to pay for luxury saddles and big names....not that there is anything wrong with that.

The important thing is that it fits well and you can ride well in it.

Thanks Kenzo, totally agree. Leather ones would be far too heavy and i dont see the point in putting the extra weight on her back when she has me to deal with already!!

And i never go for the big names... working in marketing makes you realise just how much of that is spent on the advertising!!

I need knee rolls for jumping and generally to make me feel secure and i think these have pad things which you can change to suit? xx

I have one on one of my TBs and its an ok saddle. Not the comfiest, but certainly not the worst either. However its a great fit on him which is what matters most! I'd definately recommend one.

He is relatively high withered but not extremely so - but I ride him in the normal fitting one which seems quite high at the front anyway. My friend at the yard has a very high withered TB and he has the hi-wither saddle which fits him a treat too.

I do think that Thorowgoods seem to suit the high wither types really well and there's nothing else in the price bracket that I've found that do!!

I have the T4 high wither GP and absolutely love it. So light and comfy for me and my horse and I like the look of them with the suede panels. I'm thinking of spoil us with a dressage one too

I wouldn't be without mine.

Just worth a mention....

When your looking at the T4's in the shops or where ever you are buying one from, make sure you know what model it is, (what's she on about I hear you shout lol...the T4!) yes I know we are on about the T4 but the latest T4 is more forward cut, has a slight crease in the knee roll and you can stick bigger knee blocks in and still have room for a thigh block.

Basically gives you a more secure seat and will fine for jumping in, where as the model before would probably suit those who preferred a straighter cut, say for dressage or if they wanted to do some showing so you can show your horses shoulder of a bit better (for those who cant afford expensive show saddles lol).

Also the design is more advanced, the panels are padded in a different way, cant really explain but if you saw two side by side (same fitting and size) on the same horse you'd see what I mean...where one saddle may fit the same horse much better than the other.

So if you paying for a T4 then me personally would like to think I was getting the latest version, some saddlers may still have the olders ones (still band new of course) still in stock, they have pics on there websites of the latest (from the TG website) but could be selling you the other.

Hope that helps.

WOW thanks Kenzo! Brilliant advice. Thanks for that!

I do need my knee rolls!!! I will make sure to ask the question and have a close inspection of the models he brings with him.

Thanks again, fab xx

I echo whats been said, both mine have T4's and I find them so comfy and they look good, also so handy that you can adjust the fish qnd the gullet bar as mine are both 3 and a half so are continuously growing and bulking out. This is one of the main reasons I brought the T4's!

Don't have the T4, but i do have the T6, its fantastic! Like Kenzo says the new models are more forward cut and have very generous knee rolls and come with moveable knee and thigh blocks - me likey!!

Lovely saddle. get it fitted by a good saddle fitter, and you will not regret buying it.

Wish someone would buy mine! Pm me if interested I had it for my youngster but he's outgrown it and has been treated to a proper dressage jobbie. I used it for barely 12 months, it has M and MW headplates, all the Phish bits etc and is brown with suede seat and knee rolls.
