Anyone had any dealings with this company? Any experiences good or bad, much appreciated! Thanks!!

i heard only good things of them when i asked this question on here a few months ago. i had pms praising their build quality and strength etc.
i only went with a different manufacturer because of the time frame, Thorpe would have been my first choice if they'd had anything ready when i needed it tbh. i went and saw them being made and was very impressed. hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone, keep them coming!! Ive just spoken to the chap who runs it and they sound like a really nice company to deal with. It seems to be such a minefield with these larger lorries that i really want to get it right. Will hopefully go and view some of them at Thorpe in a couple of weeks time!

However they do not build their containers in such a way so as to allow the cab to tilt.

This creates problems if you have a breakdown or when major components require repair or replacement. It also adds to general servicing costs because the engine etc is not as accesible. The fact they cut inspection panels in the floor or rear of the cab does not help that much.

Another local company worth looking at is Priory Stud in Essex.

Thorpe are a very good company, and cannot fault their service etc overall, however, you will pay over the odds for the lorry from them. If you look at a similar lorry elsewhere, you can nearly always knock a very grand off the price.

I do agree with Owlie, that Priory is well worth a look - the chap there is very approachable, and no corners are cut. They are more reasonable than Thorpe, and have a very good reputation. They maintain and supply a lot of the military and police horseboxes.

Thanks everyone! Does anyone know whether Priory Horseboxes have a website at all?? If not i'll give them a call and arrange to see them on the same day as the Thorpe boxes. Im coming down from Lincoln so it would make sense to see more in one day!

See, this is one thing i haven't given much thought to, so thanks for that info. Im a complete numpty when it comes to the mechanics of a lorry or a car for that matter. You're speaking to the girl who struggles to find and fill up her washer bottle in her car!! hehe!! Do you find the non tilt cabs are a bit of a minority then?? Is a lot more money to have them serviced if they are tilt cabs??

Sorry for all the questions.

Thats really interesting you should say that, as ive been thinking how reasonable they seem. Some of the prices i have seen locally have been extortionate and for fairly old boxes too! Having said that, i haven't been looking for very long though and haven't really got a full grasp of the market yet!

Thanks for the info though Zoeshiloh, its been really helpful to me!

I appreciate most of the comment on here are positive towards Thorpe horseboxes, but when I paid them a visit I was not that impressed with the living areas in their lorries, esp compared to the one I eventually bought private. The living areas seem very basic and poor finishing in the ones I saw, very chip board like, hence why they can afford to sell them lower. Hope I haven't offended anyone, as maybe I just didn't see a good selection

At the end of the day the horse area and the mechanics are probably the most important and as I didn't buy one I can't comment on that side.
