Hiya, i'm doing a debate at college about hunting, and i'm against hunting so therefore, my presentation will be based on those views.

Would anyone like to care to add their views as to why there against hunting and it might help me develop my presentation and make it stronger, thanks. :)

Because there are much more humane ways of culling foxes, and it is my belief, in general, that culling is not necessary in most parts of britain.

LOL.....of course there are! And I agree with your last statement, it isn't necessary in most parts of Britain....it IS however necessary in all rural parts of Britain.

How does that one work then?

My point is that, if you are doing a debate, you should have both sides of the argument, otherwise you can score no more than level 2...

Its not a debate with only one side....very biased and I'm sure you won't score a great grade.

I also am against hunting when I have snuck of into the woods for a quickie with a girl - if they stop hunting then we will not get caught! Hate to have a fox, the hounds the master and the field run past us in such a provocative position. Especially because we are almost certainly going to loose the horses as they gallop off with everyone else.

yeah if your doing a debate you need both sides views!
just to let you know i was once a anti.. untill i got of my butt and went and saw what hunting was really about and what really happened in the hunting field! maybe thats what you should do is go and see what hunting is really about and then do ur debate saying that you have seen what happens.. then you could argue your reasons why you dis like hunting!

I prefered to ride my horse than bonk in the bracken. There was always the horsebox for that kind of shemozzle (after the horses were seen to, obviously) ;)M,

Despite what the others are telling you, it's not your job in a debate to present both sides of view. It's your job to present your side of the debate with enough compelling evidence to make the opposing side collapse.
Now, to do this it does help you to anticipate the sort of things that they might say so you can develop a counter argument.
You can either use the counter argument in reply incase they do bring the point up, or you can use your counter argument *before* they bring it up in order to stop them doing so or to weaken their ability to do so.

Good luck !

I DONT LIKE HUNTING I ALSO THINK THAT THE NEW HUNTING WHERE THEY GET SHOT IS JUST AS BAD. YOUNG HEALTHY FOXES WHO CAN GET AWAY FROM THE HUNT ARE BEING DRAWN TO MEN STANDING WITH GUNS. BEFORE THE BAN LESS FOXES WHERE KILLED. I STILL DONT THINK THAT IT IS OK AND IS NOT A NICE WAY FOR AN OLD OR UNHEALTHY FOX TO BE KILLED BUT I DONT THINK SHOOTING HEALTHY FOXES IS ITHER. I ONLY FEEL BAD TOWARDS HUNTING AS I LOVE ALL ANIMALS AND COULD NOT HURT ANY ANIMAL AND SEEING ONE BEING KILLED I JUST HAVE NEVER SEEN IT AND DONT THINK I COULD IT WOULD UPSET ME.
I KNOW FOXES CAN BE A PEST AND KILL LAMBS, ONE GOT MY PET RABBIT WHEN I WAS YOUNG, BUT I JUST COULD NOT HURT ANYTHING I LOVE ALL ANIMALS.

Foxes are considered to be a pest in the countryside. They have no natural enemy, and are a predator. There are several ways to get rid of them, being hunting with hounds, shooting, poisoning and snaring. Hunting with hounds is arguably the most humane, as the death is swift, the fox has a chance to get away (I never said it was the most efficient...) and IMHO anything that means fewer guns in the world is a good thing. Also, shooting is not necessarily a clean kill, there are cases of wounded foxes dying a lingering death. Foxes caught in snares have been known to gnaw their own leg off.

The hunting ban was never about animal welfare, it was about class war. if you are concerned about animal cruelty, look at the suffering of intensively produced meat animals, battery hens and animals (including horses) sent abroad alive for slaughter. It is apparently fine to enjoy a nice KFC or a chicken korma of a Saturday night, as long as you don't try and control pests in the countryside from the back of a horse.

"Foxes are considered to be a pest in the countryside" by some people and in some places. In arable farming areas they are more of a help by killing smaller vermin.

There is some truth to that but I've known arable farmer set snares and shoot because according to them they've had foxes dig up crops when finding slugs e.t.c

Can't say I've ever seen that but I guess it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

If you want to argue against hunting you need to find farmers who are anti and use them as evidence (as these are the only people who's opinion will hold any real weight)..... I keep my horse on a sheep farm, in a rural area and the farmer does not allow fox-hunting (or didn't before the ban) - he does allow phesant shooting though which to me is strange.... personally i've never heard of mass culling by foxes where we live (obviously they take the odd one or two - who wouldn't?) - we have more problems with domestic dogs and escapees!
