I had one today, and one a month ago.

A month ago I had a dressage lesson with our normal trainer who really makes us work. Its difficult to see him often enough between his travel commitments and my shift work.

He reminded me that as Eddie can veer towards lazy, but use his enormous bucks as an evasion, I need to ride leg off and get a reaction NOW when I use it.

Today was the second light bulb. We went to a local arena, booked very early to avoid busy-ness..... HA! It was PC Tetrathalon, with temporary stables, people starting to muck out and horses being taken out for leg stretches....

Started very tense, and I made a mistake, I asked him to jump before he had stopped holding his breath. Dad reminded me that his breathing hadn't changed from his "everything is going to eat me" to his "I'm OK with this". Went back to the flat, worked him for a while longer then WOW. He PINGED! Fences weren't big, we haven't jumped for a couple of months but he just flew.

We also worked on the water. I took him to a clinic a year ago where he wouldn't go into the water. The guy running the clinic was prepared to beat him until he gave in and went into the water but thats not our style. Today, Dad donned his wellies and had a little paddle, chatted away to him and he eventually stepped in on a loose rein. Walked through it a few times, got lots of fuss from Dad and built up to trotting in. Felt like a real achievement.

Brought home a very tired boy, who had missed his normal morning nap!

Sometimes I get disheartened that he is very talented and I hold him back, but then I remind myself that Eddie doesn't have any goals. Today we felt on it!

Gorgeous photos, and I would not worry at all that he could do whatever with whoever, he's your horse and you look like you have a great partnership. I love how he is blameless as to anything he may or may not have done when still holding his breath. I also love that you went against the person who wanted to beat him into the water.

Sadly I think your video on facebook is set to private?

I'll try uploading the video to YouTube when my phone has a bit more charge.

He's my boy, I bred him so I don't want to ruin him. He's a sensitive soul and beating him wouldn't work.
