Bought my little horse as one to show but he got laminitis shortly after i got him and discovered from x-rays he'd had it several times before. Tried desparately to carry on showing him without the blubber the judges love to see and was always put down the line with the comments "needs more condition".
This was soul destroying and I wasn't prepared to sacrifice his health for better placings so turned to dressage and had a lot more fun to be honest. He hasn't got the best feet and we both like jumping but we're gutless!
