those feeding simple systems?

hi, i havnt used the 'balancers/suplements' for over 18 months as it just didnt suit my boys/girls, however i do still use the lucy nuts and purabeet with the addition of green gold to stop them bolting their food. All do very well on it and survive on relatively little feed and ablib hayledge (from my own fields) I had struggled for the last 16+ years to keep weight on my 16.3 wb x and he really did find it difficult to cope with large amounts of traditional 'corn' type feeds. he just took to it really well, and when he ended up with colic surgery 2 years ago they couldnt speak more highly of it at lea hurst, so happy i switched around 3 years ago.

I use NAF general purpose supplement to top up on vits and mins in place of the simple system one, i checked with them first and they agreed that it was ok. i've even kept my broodmare on this and she seems to be doing really well, keeping enough weight on but not getting too fat!

if you're at all worried they are really helpfull on the phone and will advise on what and when to feed, best of luck and hope your boy does well on it :-)
 
thanks going to try it, someone did say to me today that alfalfa is bad for horses, must admit never heard that? but then people say alot of things.

I would imagine you could as you say use any supplement to go with the base feed.
 
it as alfalfa isnt designed for horses to eat, Some horses cant digest the protein as its different to protein in other grasses. most horses are fine with it - mine cant take it at all and if you feed her alfalfa she literally shakes from head to toe.

All 3 of mine are on SS and now wouldn't feed anything else. I use Lucie Nuts, Stalks, Purabeet and Total Eclipse.

Feet are in excellent condition and even my TB who I previously struggled to keep weight on in winter has improved no end since swapping (previously a die hard Allen & Page fan).

Brilliant stuff IMO :)
 
mine is a freak, cant take cereals either! - So has plain chaff - no molasses, kwikbeet, micronised linseed and full fat soya flakes - Simple systems does look good - but as based on alfalfa - no good for us!

By way Charnwood micronised linseed is same as SS and nearly half the price
 
I have used it for years, all my horses have been on it and it is fantastic. I use lucinuts as my base feed. Add in Pura beet as it gets colder and give every horse brewers yeast and linseed ( bought from charnwood Milling) my Wb and my TB get additional rednuts to keep weight on and provide extra energy through winter. All look good on it, have only 1 feed a day and are currently living our 24/7! i find it incredibly good value for money. and my horses are all sane with plenty of useable energy
