Those looking for horses, shall we have an update??

Well i was looking for 2 months, wanted something aged between 5 and 12, 16hh+ something with some bone but not too heavy, and had to be sane and sensible, not strong 100% traffic ect ect, my limit was £3500.

I really did struggle as everything was not as discribed when i got there or where sold within hours.

I now have my new horse he is 5 but very green, so not what i had planned but i think in a year he will be just what i was looking for. So i did have to comprimise slightly, but so glad i did!!

does look nice but I really can't look after a grey, it would be too much for me, I have seen how much work my friends grey and coloureds take and know I can't do it. I have to admit to only just managing the general care and jobs anyway. I have to pay someone to poo pick my field in winter as I just cannot manage mucking out as well. Takes me over an hour just to do a basic muck out

Good for you!! glad its working out. Like I said I don't mind a youngster so long as basically safe. I have bought on my own before and backed 2 so have a little experience.

would you be willing to take on an rehabilatated (sp?) ex racer???

check out this site.....

http://www.darleyrehoming.co.uk/index.html

they wont let you apply for a certain horse -you give them your details and then when they have something that matches you then go. They only rehome their own horses (stud owned by sheikh mohammed) when the horses are either finished racing - or are too slow in many cases they go back to the stud where they are retrained and rehomed. All geldings though.
have a look see...

friend of mine has a 9 yr old 16hh Tbx - forward going but light in the hand, enthusiastic jumper, safe, done 2'9 SJ, some hunter trialling and been hunting this autumn - all with a mixture of competencies of girls on her livery yard. He's bay, quite big moving, but very smooth to ride (good for bad backs and hips!!) Also not very wide

I can PM you her tel number if he sounds interesting. He's within your price range and on the Hereford/Glos borders - takes us an hour and a half to Junction 14 M6 if he's close enough

but guessing its the same horse?? Shame I didn't see this one this morning I could have viewed it before the one I am seeing about 6.30. NOt going to get to see much in the dark, but if its any good will go back, at least they have indoor school!

I hate to say it but for your budget, you are simply asking near on impossible unless....

You go older
You buy a cob, (i think you are very wrong thinking they are all wide, many are not!) Go and try a few.
You are being rar too picky on conformation/stable vices etc... By all accounts you only want a safe hack/riding club.

If you find something that suits your criteria, there will be a catch, there is no way i would let a youngish horse/in its prime of good quality go for that money.

Seriously start looking at cobs.

I don't think £2800 is totally unrealistic for what you want. I think since autumn and the wet weather prices have come down and there are some bargains to be had. This one will be too far for you but is within your budget and fits the bill:

I think what you won't get is a 4 or 5 year old with real competition potential. We always have to pay a premium for that elusive potential. You would get plenty of ex racers if you are up to the challenge. If you are willing to go as old as 11 I think there will be plenty at that end of your range that have proved to be only ordinary that will be within your budget. Just nice steady away sorts that will never be world beaters but good enough for RC level.

Chin up keep looking your horse is out there!

I just went to see this one

http://www.horsemart.co.uk/advert/4_yrs_15_3_hh_chestnut_warmblood_cheshire/73915

He was really sweet. Was quite green especially in the canter and too be fair I didn't give him enough of a 'go' in the small indoor school. But boy he had a fab jump on him. So I am going back to see him again in the day light and outside. If he behaves just the same then I think I have found my new neddy.

However I do have 2 more to try first thing in the morning so who knows they may be even better lol

Your right perfect, but just way too far. At least I know they are out there and while I know I will not get perfection I will one day find what I want (may have already)???

Well that sounds promising!!
And that horse did look a really nice sort I must say. If you are in that area I got my latest horse from this dealer and I see she has one within your budget that looks nice may be worth a look

I am quite certain you will get one soon there are definitely some well priced ones out there now. I have definitely noticed a drop in the market since I bought in Spring. Good luck!
