My hairy cob has a mite problem, I have the dectomax injection, some people say two jabs 10 days apart, vet says may be after 3-4 weeks. I am using frontline too but wonder how often I should use it. For dogs etc its a month I think
but hairylump still stamping

Vet told me to apply Frontline spray every two weeks. I did that for two months - all up all 4 legs even though only two were affected.

Use it maybe 3-4 times a year but those times will do it twice with two weeks in between. No clipping op feathers needed and believe me he has plenty of hair!

I have clipped the feather off my Draft mare who has obviously had pastern dermatitis for many years. The vendor told me she had had Dectomax twice with her in the last year and she was still itchy, I've tried all sorts, including Cooper's fly Repellent Plus which worked for a while but she was still itchy and scabby.
In desperation I clipped her when I realised that she was sweating in the warm weather and that was making her itch. She was fine until the weather turned wet, now I'm letting the feather grow back and spraying with Equimins Tea Tree mist which seems to be keeping the itch at bay. Daily spraying has now become every 3 days, as we've got a build up.

Yes it did :) but he's not a hairy by any stretch of the imagination. I imagine it would be harder to get the Frontline through all the feather of a hairy.

Try using pure Neem Oil. Work it well into the feathers and just leave it on. It will get rid of the mites and stop the mud sticking so much.
Only downside is that Neem stinks.

After nearly a year of veg oil & sulphur plus clipping feathers off (which worked well but the oil and sulphur is a horrible messy job!), some clever poster on here suggested cheap dog flea collars on each leg. I was sceptical but have given it a go and six weeks on we are still mite free!! Worth a try maybe?

I bought a cob with a chronic case. I put frontline drops on all his legs, wormed him with ivermectin and dosed him with Butox Swish, repeated the frontline after 2 weeks, and never had a problem after that. I think it probably helped that he lived out with me and none of the others had them, so once the mites were gone there was nothing to reinfect him :)

I have done him again today, wasn't sure how often was safe to frontline. Spoke to vets yesterday and they said weekly!
He is incredibly hairy and I do clip his legs but even with v short hair you cant see the skin !I have to massage it in.
Strangely enough he only seems to stamp furiously when he is first turned out. Doesn't seem to bother him in the stable.
