Those of You Who Are on a Water Meter at Your Yard...

Around £35 a quarter for four ponies living out. Water is mainly only used for drinking water tho.

So a £20 a month increase in rent to cover 'water' would be a bit excessive then? 2 horses and 1 pony.

I think an increase of £20 a month on top of whatever you are already paying sounds very excessive unless you are using loads of water washing down boxes, yard, lorries etc.

I have a feeling you might be local-ish to me - in which case you'll come under the same water company too - Welsh Water - so you'll be paying the same kind of prices!

One thing I forgot to mention tho is that I only get charged for water, not sewerage charges. If you also get charged for drainage/sewerage charges that would increase the bill somewhat.

Yes it's on top of the rent I am already paying which already includes water. It is mainly used for drinking with a leg hose down a couple of times a week (just one horse). Also one tail wash on average every two weeks. Bathing has been minimal and when I am cleaning legs properly for competing I use a bucket of water rather than the hose.

No sewage charges on top.

Def expensive then!

£20 a quarter. 2 horses, plus geese. I use as much as I want and wash out stables, horse trailers and the horses. Never any more.

Our water bill is around £900 - £1000 a year. I would say at least half of that is the horses. We have 6 - 8 of them here at any one time.

Last year I had 2 horses & 1 pony, was paying:
Standing charge for meter: £15.00 per half year. usage about 18 to 22 cubic litres a year.
Half yearly bill is always around £23 to £26 in total inc the standing charge.
Veolia Water in NW Surrey, mine is classified as 'field supply'.
Its used for drinking water, washing the fuzzies as and when, & occasionally hosing the car or horsebox down.

Next door are being charged by the meter owner (this suppies 4 properties with respectively: 0 animals on plot 1, 2 horses & 1 pony on plot 2, 2 large ponies on plot 3 and the final one has 2 pigs) £20 per month per each holding - total rip off by the woman who owns the land where the main meter is!

This is really interesting as we pay a standard charge of £495 (roughly £41 a month) a year for our household and yard water combined. Yard is 10 ft from back door!!

We have 6 terriers living outside whose kennels get washed down every night using half a 45 gallon drum full of water. We also have my horse who gets legs washed off most nights in the winter, washed down after hunting etc, 3 water troughs. We don't pay sewerage charges.

Would it be cheaper to be on a meter? OH has always said we'd get charged a fortune on a meter but I'm beginning to think it would be far cheaper on a meter. Any ideas?
