how is the mum after all the pups have gone?

We're getting a puppy next year and I'm reading lots of things about how the puppy will behave when they leave the litter and their mum. Just wondering how the mum generally is? Do they get sad? Are they confused? Interested to hear your experiences.

Our girls are always relieved - pups hurt when their teeth come through

Though they're not bothered when we keep one either.

Mum and sister breed - mum has done for the past 50 years I worked out the other day

- and I have never known of a bitch getting distressed or upset when the pups go. In fact mum has a litter at the moment whether the bitch has decided she has had enough of the pups after 4 weeks

- she hops in, feeds them, cleans up, then hops out again and says 'right, thats your lot for while'

It might be different because mum has lots of dogs, but having said that BFs cocker has a litter of 7 pups at the moment about ready to be sold, and she can't wait to see the back of them

Skye weaned hers herself, she was glad to get rid LOL

I'm keeping a couple and one is going next door so she'll probably be a bit disappointed about that

You know it's really funny when we keep another, all the adults get the "oh no please say it's not stopping" look on their faces!!

The sweetest thing is that my mum has an old stud dog - he is 13 3/4 now, quite a good age for a Cavalier - who loves puppies still - he will jump in the box with them all the time, just gets a bit flustered when they think they can feed though

My dog did a happy dance as the last pup left, if dogs could smile and run round manically, she did it.

Didnt seem bothered one iota the unmaternal selfish sod

Most of mine have seemed quite relieved when they go! I did have one bitch though who was an absolute nightmare to wean. She would go mad when you tried to keep her apart from her pups for any length of time, she destroyed 2 doors trying to get to them. We kept a puppy from one of her litters and until the pup was about 6 months old the mum would come in and regurgitate her food for the pup unless we kept them apart, lovely!

More often than not they are relieved, as the pups get bigger and more playful the bitches get really fed up. Or the easy answer is keep one of the pups, that way mum and dad can share the burden!!!!
Silly thing, my girls (mum and daughter) sleep in a cage in the kitchen (mum is v. naughty!) and the dad sleeps upstairs with us, every morning the pup (2 and ahlf) stands by the door and waits for her dad to get up, and then fusses over him like he's been gone a month!!!!!

My bitch was always pleased to get rid of them! all though her 1st litter we kept one and also a neighbour had one, and the mum would go next door and steal her puppy back!

i have the same thing! both mum and daughter little naughty (funny way though) But when daughter has not seen her mum or dad for about 5mins shes gets over excited as though they have been parted for ages!
