What do you use & why?

I currently use wood pellets but would be interested to know the benefits of mixing with other products.

Thanks in advance ;)

I used to use shavings and straw. I used a sprinkle of shavings on rubber matting then my normal straw bed. The shavings helped absorb the wet so saved my matting and straw. I've gone back to straw now though because it was a bit of a faff sifting though my bed so I didn't mix the shavings in.

I use pellets for all 4 but for one if them I often but a bag of shavings on top (the stable leaks through the front bricks at the bottom and the pellets don't last as long as they do for the others) I find it helps. I leave a base of pellets and then each day just throw up the shavings and remove droppings/and soggy bits. It's not as time consuming as having him on just shavings. If I don't need to do it though I'd prefer not to. If you search there are a few threads on here with people's different ways of doing the pellets and of mixing with other bedding

I do, I used wood pellets with Aubiose mixed in. I tend to concentrate the wood pellets where the wee goes and then the rest of the bed is a mix of both. It works really well - unlike shavings both pellets and aubiose rot down very quickly and well when on the muck heap and the aubiose just helps to stabilise the bed and give it a little bounce/structure.

I use megazorb with a full shavings bed on top. The megazorb is to soak up the pee - she's a wet mare - it stays insitu all winter, I don't lift the megazorb at all - just take out any wet shavings an the poo. Works well.
