Those of you who work and compete...

do you have a surface and lights? I had to move yards earlier this year as last yard closed down. I went to the only yard in my area which has all year turn out and a surface and lights. However the grazing is very poor and despite advertising that they have 35 acres they only graze about 10 (with about 24 horses) , the school floods at the first sight of rain and takes days to get back to normal so I am riding out in the mornings anyway as can't use the school at night even tho I have lights. So my friend is at a nice yard where there is lots of grazing and a basic sand surface no lights(they have spaces). Just wondering how those of you who work full time and compete manage if you have no lights do you just school in the dark or ride really ealry, I am thinking I could probably do the latter?

I ride at the weekends and take a half day on friday during this part of the winter so I can ride then. I don't have a school, so mostly hack and sometimes hire one.

I'm taking next tuesday off work to compete, and the one after that - plan on doing the discovery and a 1.05m,a dn the week after (if all goes well!) the 1.05m and the Newcomers

Hi,

I work full time with an hours drive to work each way so I leave home at 7 and don't get back until 6. I compete at novice level eventing with my horse. I am lucky enough to rent a room at the yard that my horse is kept at as it is owned by a friend. There is a sand school but no lights. I can't ride anyway at the moment due to a fractured knee but over the winter I give her a bit of a break and just ride at weekends. It is pitch back when I leave and get back so no way I could ride. my horse is a 3/4 tb and is naturally quite fit. I probably wont start eventing until April as I need to get light enough in the evenings to be able to ride everyday but it can be done!
