How long till you could ride again? And did you start off in a brace?

I am recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery, 2 weeks ago but my Medial ligament has been pinned too and I have a meniscal tear. I'm getting very frustrated about not being able to ride.

The last couple of days I've been walking round on my mum's very safe cob, but am obviously not going to do any more than that. The physio has been saying 2-3 months before I can ride but I was wondering how long it was for everybody else after simil;ar injuries/surgery???

Thanks

I damaged the ligaments in one of my knees a couple of years ago, I didn't need surgery but it was still pretty bad. I had physio and was told to not ride for a similar amount of time if I wanted it to heal properly (my physio said that it would just keep re-occuring if I didn't give it enough time). By the time I starting seeing my physio I could barely go a few hundred feet at most without my knee buckling under me so I took his advice & didn't ride for 3 months : ( It was really frustrating at times but i'm so glad that I rested it properly as it's not caused me any problems since and I can ride as much as I want.

But basically it's up to you - you'll know when you're knee feels ok to ride on.

Oh and I did use a brace when I started riding - not sure if I definately needed it, but it was nice to have the extra support there at first.

i had acl surgery, and it all seemed to be going well until i got an infection in the joint capsule.
having said that i was back on my welsh cob about 3 days after i came out of hospital, and was almost back to speed about a month later, but just worked at it gradually. i think i walked for about 2 weeks, then did little bits of sitting trot... etc.

I did my ACL last year skiing, i havent had it repaired tho as it's coping well enough on its own. I rode about 2 months after I did but not sure after a opp. Go to a physio - worked wonders for me. hope it helps and I hope its not too painful
